POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

It has been one of the great honors of my life to work with @ensemblemodern on Ondřej Adámek and @thomas_.fiedler’s Connection Impossible (Unmögliche Verbindung). The rehearsals and performances were full of curiosity, irreverence, and rigor. There is something about Ensemble Modern that feels so fresh and restless, in the best possible way. Working with them was a masterclass in making music together and being together.

When I first sang through Connection Impossible, I cried. It is really touching when a composer understands your voice, but it is even better when a composer understands your spirit. Ondřej wrote this piece for me, and he wrote it *of* me. What a gift. I’m forever grateful.

Hello dear friends!
So much has happened and so much is happening, and I have just been both bathing in it and biting my fingernails over all the exciting news while staying silent on social media. It’s been nice to disappear, but also it’s also lovely to come back.

My season starts tonight (!) with the NYC premiere of Godfrey Reggio‘s Once Within a Time at @themuseumofmodernart, with music by @philipglass and @sussandeyhim, produced by @ssoderbergh.

I sing on the soundtrack and appear in the film as “Hero” across from @apollonomadic who plays my twin (but also irl) “Destiny”, @brianbelotti who is just so brilliant in this thing, and @theatergrottesco's John Flax, who is to thank for introducing me to G in the first place. Also @mike_tysonko appears in the film as what I interpret as the great wake-up call to the world… and for the record, Mike Tyson and his spectacular wife Lakiha were just so gracious and kind through the whole process. I learned/am learning so much. What a trip.

Everything is beautiful and intimidating, and so full of love for Godfrey, and my heart is pounding just writing about it.

I have some other exciting things coming in both the US and Europe next year, and I’ll share the news soon, but for the moment, I need to take a break from thinking about all this before my heart explodes.
