Raíces stands with those who can TELL A STORY!

From the Borderland to the big screen, The 2026 El Paso Film Festival reminds us that film is more than entertainment. It’s a lens into who we are, what we experience, and the communities we call home. 🎥🫶🏾

For a city’s health system, storytelling matters, too. Film can open conversations about the issues affecting our communities, make complex experiences easier to understand, and remind us that behind every statistic is a person with a story worth hearing. 🎞️✨

A scary moment at Western Playland in Sunland Park, New Mexico, was caught on video after a cable snapped on the Southwest Slinger while two riders were onboard.

The malfunction left the riders suspended above the park. No serious injuries were reported.
Thanks Michelle Tarin

Happy to share the short animated film my teammate and I completed last December. The Inconvenience Store is a senior 3D animated short film created under the 3D Program at the Creative Media Institute, New Mexico State University, directed by Ailed Macías Alvarado. The film follows Isa, an apathetic teenager working the night shift at her family’s convenience store, whose small mistake summons a magical alebrije—forcing her to reconnect with her inner child and rediscover the importance of staying true to herself and her cultural roots.

This project was developed as a culmination of undergraduate studies, combining environment design, look development, animation, and technical production to tell a culturally inspired story grounded in Mexican tradition.
