People pleasing. A word. I know it’s detrimental and can be harmful but that doesn’t make it easy to course correct or even notice. I wasn’t aware of how bad it was until I had the terms and knew the reasons for it then I could connect the dots. Instead of just being told “stop” I broke it down and figured out the root.

Just felt like an important thing to talk about. Anyone else relate?

Wanting something and showing up for it are two different things. Just because a person’s actions don’t match what you’d do doesn’t mean they don’t want it.

So before I decide what someone wants, I get curious. What went right this week? What got in the way? What felt doable, and what felt like too much? Those answers tell me where to coach. “You just don’t want it” ends the conversation before it starts.

That goes for the first conversation too. When someone reaches out about coaching, I’m not trying to find out how bad they want it. I’m trying to find out what their life actually looks like, so the plan fits it.

For a lot of ADHD and neurodivergent people, consistency isn’t about desire. Capacity changes day to day. Some days you’ve got it all, and some days getting to the gym is the whole win. A plan that ignores that will make anyone look like they don’t care. A plan that bends with it gives you a real shot.

Grit Camp No. 9

Thank you again to all of our participants. Full Season 2 Recap, truck pull videos and the final rankings for our Truck Pull times coming soon.

Until then, we hope you can enjoy these photos as much as these people enjoyed the event. It was an amazing time with amazing energy and it was everything I was looking for in a group of hard working individuals.

Literally nothing is gonna hold us down or stop us from becoming who we want to be. Remember that. Show some grit.

Yes this is content but this isn’t content. I think the most persistent pattern in my life is not knowing I need help. Not knowing how to ask for help because “I’ll figure it out” and I’m really good at that. Independence not because I want to be big macho warrior man who handles it all on his own but because my life evidence says that asking for help means I’ve failed. It means I didn’t do enough. That’s the weight I carry with me, as an adult, knowing the general signs of success, healthy relationship, financial stability, family, working a career I love. All those ideals are my standard. I set them as a standard and when I’m missing the mark I blame no one but me. This pressure builds and builds and then those thoughts come up “well you know, you wouldn’t have to hit any marks if you weren’t here” that’s the logic at the crux. The difficulty ends if there’s nothing else to do. That mindset is not gonna help me but it’s been a mindset that runs as soon as things get too difficult for me to rationalize.

Recently I noticed my thinking will go to “no one else is doing what you are doing”. There’s no one like me. Yes there are people similar but me. Tariq Harrison. There’s not another one. I can’t take myself away from what I’m meant to do. My purpose isn’t clear yet. I’m only just now learning how to move in this world as a neurodivergent person. I have so much more to experience so much more to learn. So many more people to help. I need to be here and do so you. That’s all. That’s the message.

Happy adhd awareness month. I’m gonna do more intentional adhd content for the month, busting myths providing what advice I can and helping the neurotypical and even my fellow neurodivergent peeps with understanding what’s happening. I can go all day about this stuff down to how the emotions are affected by the ADHD brain and nervous system.

If you’re adhd and have topics you’d like me speak on let me know! I’m going based of what I’ve experienced as well as my own research so please don’t take any of this as medical advice.

Training is a privilege I don’t think we take this serious enough tbh. Theres gonna come a time where we can’t move the same way, lift the same weight. We have this body 1 time. I don’t mean to be morbid or dark but we have one go at this shit. Scarcity is part of what makes things valuable right? How much do you value your body? For me, I value it enough to push my body to its limit. With love not shame.

I swear I’m a chill guy sometimes I just wanna be a chill as possible and that often means speaking as little as possible. It’s nothing personal it’s just my brain. Neurodivergence, autism and ADHD in my case can make me seem distant, uninterested or have me walking around with RBF…

I swear I know how to speak and hold a conversation but it just takes a lot sometimes 😭
