It’s Frightmares opening weekend! 🎃

I’ve spent the week up at Lagoon teching four completely different shows, and it remains one of my favorite weeks of the year.

Hack & Slash is a full throttle dance show built on big color, movement, beams and spectacle. Nightmare Cabaret lives somewhere between theatre, concert and Halloween insanity. Plank & Plunder Pirate Party is bright, playful theatrical storytelling for kids. And Séance strips everything back into an intimate immersive experience where light has to quietly tell you exactly where to look… and occasionally make you question whether you actually wanted to look there. 👻

As a lighting designer, I love that these four shows stretch completely different muscles. One minute I’m throwing huge saturated looks across a stage, the next I’m building a pirate sunset, lighting a chainsaw dance number, or obsessing over a tiny pool of light on a Ouija board. It’s a little bit of everything I love about this job, all designed, programmed and teched in one wild week.

All four of these wonderfully weird worlds come out of the mind of Joey Wartnerchaney @wartnerchaney . Getting to jump into his madness every year and help bring it to life with light is always a hell of a good time.

Getting to work alongside @bernadettepeebles and his brilliant choreography and ideas is always a blast. There’s something really fun about lighting work that already has so much energy, movement and personality baked into it, and then finding all the ways the lighting can push it even further.

And of course, none of this happens without @collin_schmierer, Associate Lighting Designer and Programmer, who’s alongside me all week turning four shows’ worth of ideas into cues. Always grateful to have him in the madness with me.

Frightmares is officially open. Let the spooky season begin. 🎃💀🏴‍☠️

50 classes!

June 11: 25 classes
July 2: 40 classes
July 27: 50 classes

Those numbers make me smile, but this really isn’t about the number.

There was a time when I was scared of my body. I felt like I had lost so much and had no idea what getting strong again would even look like.

And somehow, @rumbleboxingmontclair became part of that journey back.

Recently, my doctor actually suggested I pull back a little and see if my workouts were contributing to the exhaustion I’ve been feeling. So I did. Fewer classes, more rest, trying to find that balance.

Turns out…not much changed. 😂 So for now, I’m going to chalk another one up to the lovely side effects of Tamoxifen.

And I’ll be back to punching a little more regularly.

But I’m also realizing that getting stronger doesn’t always mean pushing harder. It’s listening to my body, adjusting when I need to, finding balance—and still doing the things that make me feel like ME.

And a huge part of this has been the Rumble community and the coaches who motivate me, push me and celebrate these milestones right alongside me.

So yes, today I’m celebrating 50.

Not because of the number itself.

Because of what those 50 classes represent. Strength. Trusting my body again. And finding my way back to me.
