Last night, our inaugural Van Alen Vanguard members braved the bracing cold and lingering snow banks for a cozy kickoff dinner at our Gowanus space.

The Vanguard is a dynamic network of 21 emerging design leaders, developing programs and exhibitions that reimagine designers’ roles in civic life. We had such a wonderful time chatting, getting to know each other, and plotting for the future…

Be sure to join us for our first Vanguard event organized by member @taylorloutsis:

What Language Leaves Behind:
Integrating Graphics and Architecture
Thurs 2/19, 5:30–8 pm
303 Bond St, Brooklyn

An evening of conversation on interdisciplinary design collaboration between @studio_loutsis @rexarchitecture @snohetta, moderated by journalist and Vanguard member @diana_b.

Swipe to see over three years of designing, prototyping, studying, iterating, coordinating, and eventually installing of our building identity signage for The Lindemann Performing Arts Center at Brown University.

Typographically, the greatest challenge was to ensure all words and letters are optically, equally spaced with the words spanning across three separate glass façade panels.

Technically, the greatest challenge was the complex coordination lead by Shawmut (thank you!) involving an international consortium of engineers (electrical, structural, and mechanical), consultants (façade and signage fabricator), artist (light art installation), and designers; all in effort to ensure the final design is fully integrated with the architectural glass curtain wall.

Words can’t fully express our gratitude for Brown University and all vendors, consultants, and key stakeholders who provided us the time, space, and resources to discover novel solutions ensuring we realize the original design intent … dating back to October 2019, when we shared our first round of concept designs for the broader signage system.

Thank you to all who visited our studio for the launch of AN Interior’s latest magazine issue. Special thank you to the @aninteriormag team and @yhprumkcaj for helping organize and facilitate the evening — the evening wouldn’t have been possible without your support!

On the third Tuesday in May, AN Interior stepped out in Brooklyn to host a small invite-only party. Hosted by @studio_loutsis in its bespoke Gowanus workspace, an eclectic mix of designers, writers, editors, artists, and creatives moved between an outdoor roof space and indoor studio enclave.

Studio Loutsis was an ideal fit for the soirée as it received one of AN’s 2023 Best of Design Editors’ Picks awards. The space itself was designed by @futureprojectsarch: The result is a genuinely personal space perfect for the summer studio party of the season.
