POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

His dad disappeared when he was little. His mom was just diagnosed with stage four cancer. And Tomas realized the only thing he had was soccer. 🙏

The same question kept coming back to him: what happens when the team stops paying? What if a club manages its money badly and the checks never come? How do you provide for your little sister on a bet like that?

Everyone around him was either retired or sick. The academy he grew up in was gone. And he was nineteen, doing the math on his family's future.

That math is what ended his plan to build a life on professional soccer. Not a bad game or an injury. Just the weight of being the one people depend on.

Your grades are worth more than your highlight reel.

Tomas learned this the hard way — a good player with a bad GPA loses the scholarship every time to an average player with a great one. Coaches spend academic money differently than athletic money, and after COVID that gap only got wider.

So he stopped settling for C's and chased a 4.0 instead. Called it one of the best decisions of his life. 📚⚽

For three hours every Sunday, Tomas said the world just stops. Not because the problems go away — they don't. But because everyone in that room is carrying the exact same weight in one form or another, and something about sitting in it together makes the whole thing feel smaller.

He described it almost like relief lifting off his shoulders in real time. Serving, watching the service, listening to other people share what they're walking through, realizing his stress isn't unique or isolating — it's just part of being human, and everyone around him is figuring it out too.

But the line that actually stopped me was this: we constantly forget that we prayed so hard in the past to be exactly where we are right now.

Think about that for a second. Somewhere behind you is a version of yourself who would have given almost anything for the life you're currently frustrated with. The job you're stressed about is the job you prayed for. The season you're impatient in is the season you begged for.

Church, for Tomas, isn't an obligation squeezed into a Sunday. It's the one place all week where he actually remembers that. 🙏

Same world. Completely different job. Tomas spent years living inside the athlete's version of college sports — 6 AM lifts, practice at one, the constant math of whether he'd make it to class on time. Now he's on the administration side, and the stress looks nothing like it used to.

His worry these days isn't a missed rep or a tight schedule. It's making sure the football roster is finalized, booking the bus company for a Dallas trip, prepping vans for a road game. Same athletic department. Entirely different set of problems.

It's a small but honest reminder that leaving a season of your life doesn't mean leaving the world you loved — sometimes it just means learning to love it from a different seat. 🙏⚽

Players not getting paid for six months. Managers disappearing with sponsor money. An athlete's income depending entirely on things outside their control — whether the team wins, whether a sponsor follows through, whether the person holding the checkbook is even honest.

That was the reality Tomas was staring down in Bolivia's lower-tier leagues. Not a rare horror story — a pattern, repeated constantly, across nearly every club outside the top two or three. He realized something most nineteen year olds never have to face head-on: unless he made it to the very top of a system built on unreliable money, soccer wasn't going to be a stable way to support anyone.

Then his mother was diagnosed with stage four cancer. At the beginning of COVID. While the league itself stopped paying players entirely.

"I cannot live that life," he said. Not as a complaint. As a decision.

That's the exact moment he started looking at options in the U.S. — a search that eventually led to a signed contract with an agency and an offer letter from a junior college most people have never heard of, in Robinson, Illinois. A small, unglamorous first step toward an entirely different life.

Sometimes the biggest pivots don't start with clarity. They start with someone finally admitting the current path can't hold the weight it's being asked to carry. 🙏⚽

Tomas's grandfather won Bolivia's only Copa América. Played and later coached the national team. And was the first South American ever to play for Bayern Munich — back when Bayern was still a second-division club nobody outside Germany had heard of yet.

He's got photos on the pitch with Beckenbauer and Gerd Müller — the exact generation that built Bayern into the club it is today. Tomas's grandfather was there before any of it existed. Before the Bundesliga titles. Before the European Cups. Before "Bayern Munich" meant anything close to what it means now.

That's the family Tomas grew up in. Soccer at a level most of us only watch on television, running through blood that eventually became his own career — and later, his own reckoning with what soccer could and couldn't give him. 🇧🇴⚽

The wave always looks like a tsunami before it arrives. Tomas said that almost in passing, and it's the most accurate description of faith under real pressure I've heard on this show.

He's watched it happen over and over — a crisis builds, the stakes feel impossible, and by the time it actually reaches him, it's a ripple at his feet instead of the disaster he braced for. Not because the problem wasn't real. Because he's learned, one step of faith at a time, that God doesn't let him down, even when the moment says otherwise.

He's honest that this isn't some worry-free peace, either. Right now he's finishing a masters in Oklahoma with no idea what comes after it, and going back to Bolivia isn't something he can live with. That uncertainty brings real stress. He's not pretending it doesn't.

But he trusts there's a reason he's still here — a purpose in the timeline even when the next step isn't visible yet. God moves the pieces where they're supposed to go. Tomas doesn't have to see the whole board to believe that. 🙏

What an incredible summer of GameSpeed Performance Training! 💪⚡

I’m so proud of every athlete who showed up, worked hard, and pushed themselves to improve each day. Watching these kids become faster, stronger, more confident, and more athletic has been amazing.

The work doesn’t stop here. Keep training, keep getting stronger, and keep improving your performance—no matter what sport you play. The habits you build today will help you succeed tomorrow.

Thank you to all the parents for trusting me to be part of your athletes’ journey. I can’t wait to see what this group accomplishes next!

Another great day at our GameSpeed Performance Camp! ##jogabonitosocceracademy #privatetraining #okcsoccer #soccerlife

It’s awesome to see these kids showing up every day with a positive attitude and a willingness to work hard. Improvement doesn’t happen overnight, but every session, every repetition, and every challenge helps them get one step better.

Keep working, keep learning, and enjoy the process. The results will come. 💪
