There’s one side of life where you train, learn, absorb, and get better every day… and then there’s the side where you get to give back and share what you’ve learned with others.

And honestly, I don’t appreciate anything more than people who show up with respect, curiosity, and just a willingness to try even when it feels a little awkward or goofy.

I had the opportunity to work with a group of high school girls, sharing some martial arts values, self defense, and just having fun with it. And the biggest thing I took away wasn’t even what I taught, it was how willing they were to put themselves out there. That’s all you can really ask for.

I know trying something new can feel uncomfortable. I’ve been there. But everyone showed up, asked questions, gave their best effort, and stayed open minded the entire time. That means everything.

Moments like this remind me why I love martial arts so much. It’s not just the competition or the sport, it’s this side of it. The ability to pass on what you’ve learned, share your experiences, and hopefully impact someone in a positive way.

Martial arts kept me on a good path growing up. It gave me structure, discipline, and values that I still carry with me today. It introduced me to incredible role models and shaped me into who I am. And if I can pass even a small piece of that on to the next generation, that’s a win.

You don’t have to be a martial artist to carry these values, they apply to anyone willing to learn and grow.

At the end of the day, the biggest win is just being open to trying something new. Even if it feels weird. Even if you feel a little out of place. Just give it a go.

That’s where growth happens.

To everyone who came out, thank you 🥋🩷

Life Lately 😬🤗😎

I saw someone the other day and they said “You look like you’re thriving.”

Honestly deep down, I knew what they saw didn’t reflect how I felt. Running a business is tough—full stop. If someone says it’s easy, they probably haven’t done it.

Even though I’m heading into year 10 of running She’s4Sports (can you believe this!). I still get scared about navigating my business in a turbulent economy, public and corporate sentiment on DEI and gender equity work and securing partnerships, and the list goes on. On days where I feel like Jesus take the wheel, I have to remind myself that I’ve contributed to changing the sports media culture in Canada for women in sports and provided opportunities for athletes and leaders from all backgrounds in sport to amplify their stories and get paid via sponsorships that I negotiated. She’s4Sports has also created spaces that never existed in Toronto by bringing women in sports together to build community, take up space and learn from each other. The resources and content we create also provides opportunities for girls to connect with role models in sport and dream big. Through our philanthropic efforts we’ve also provided financial resources to support youth programming at: Black Girls Hockey Club, Spirit North, TB West and Lady Ballers.

Now if you’re a potential entrepreneur on the fence, and don’t know where to start, just start. The beauty of starting—even when it’s messy, uncertain, or imperfect—is that it creates ripples far beyond what you can see. Every interview, every panel, every post has sparked conversations, inspired young girls, and challenged outdated narratives. Change doesn’t always roar in—it often begins as a whisper, echoing through your community until it becomes a movement. So step out, and trust that your impact will make a difference.

A big thank you to my team, family, friends and the She’s4Sports community. I couldn’t do this without you.

Ainka 💙

Eight years ago, I set out to change the sports media landscape in Canada for women in sports, by starting my company She’s4Sports. Today, I still don’t have all the answers to running a business and like most entrepreneurs, I’m learning every day.

Thank you to my husband, who’s been an integral part of my company. To my family, friends and the She’s4Sports fans, I’m grateful for your ongoing support and community that you helped me build online and at our events.

Happy Women’s Entrepreneurship Day to my community of women business owners. Let’s continue to create change and develop solutions that make life better for our communities and the people we love. 🩵
