@gretchen.stark.art installed her work, “Look and Look Again III” in Cedar Valley’s Educational Art Gallery for her show, “Recursive”. With our first round of Fall shows coming to a close on Friday, October 9th, be sure to visit before it’s gone!

From the artist:
“ My practice centers on examining what threatens the body, exploring how contemporary events shape both our physical selves and our psyches, leaving lasting imprints on memory, identity, and our shared humanity. My current work takes the form of modular cut-paper installations that merge elements of painting and drawing.
Materially, I am drawn to the tension between control and surrender. Ink and watercolor introduce unpredictability and spontaneity, reflecting the overwhelming sense of chaos and lack of control that often comes with confronting the instability of the world and the systems that shape our lives.”

Shown: “Look and Look Again III”, 2025, Watercolor, Gouache, Ink, Colored Pencil, and Acrylic on Cut Paper, 12’ x 8’

Join us next week Thursday, October 8th, from 12pm-2pm for the reception of “Con muro y sin puerta/With a Wall & No Door” by Freddy Ortega @freddysart.studio ! Grab some food, listen firsthand about Freddy’s creative processes, and enjoy good conversation as we close out our round of Fall professional exhibits. 💫

About the show:
“This body of work constructs hybrid pictorial spaces where European art historical conventions and Indigenous cosmologies coexist in tension. Rooted in the lived experience of mestizo identity and border consciousness, the paintings refuse singular cultural alignment and instead stage encounters between inherited histories, spiritual systems, and visual traditions. Rather than illustrating narrative, the work builds environments in which history, belief, and personal experience collide, asking how identity is formed when more than one tradition claims the same ground.”

Can’t make the reception? The show will be open from August 24th-October 9th. All campus galleries are open Monday-Friday 10am to 4pm. Have questions or want to know more about upcoming events? Visit our Virtual Arts Calendar 🔗link in bio or email us at galleries@dallascollege.edu!

#artreception #dallasartscene #artevent #painting #artexhibition

What’s really for dinner? 🍽️

TCU art history students are looking beyond the plate in What’s for Dinner? Conflict & Consumption in American Food Culture, a student-curated exhibition exploring the ways food intersects with culture, access and everyday life.

From curating and installation to a community partnership with Easyside, students brought the exhibition to life from concept to gallery.

Read the full story at the link in our bio. A whimsical art installation featuring a picnic scene with large red flowers against a blue wall. Various abstract sculptures resemble food items, including a piece of cake on a tall pedestal. A red and white checkered blanket is displayed on the grass-covered floor. Text above reads: "Art History, Student Experience. What's for Dinner? Students examine the ways food shapes identity, culture and community through a multidisciplinary exhibition.

This week, we celebrate National Arts in Education Week — and honestly, we celebrate it every day 💜

Across Art, Dance, Design, Fashion Merchandising, Music and Theatre, our students are diving into hands-on learning, pushing creative boundaries and discovering what it means to Lead On, Creatively. A ballet dancer performs a graceful arabesque on stage, spotlighted against a dark background. Three other dancers stand in the background, watching.

Join us Tuesday, September 15 from 12pm-2pm for the reception of Martin Molina’s “Close Only Counts...”, on view at the Eastfield’s 219 Gallery! Take a moment to meet the artist, ask questions, and enjoy the company of other creatives.

From the Artist:
“In this series, I challenged myself to reinterpret the visual and cultural associations of the original game, creating a collection of woodblock prints with subtly coded imagery. Each of the 54 cards serves as a foundation for a unique part, all of which are represented in this exhibition....In addition to Lotería, this body of work is also influenced by the history and cultural significance of October. The eerie atmosphere of the month, along with its connections to horror films and the Halloween holiday, inspired a selection of pieces that explore themes of fear, folklore, and the macabre.“

Can’t attend the reception? The show will be open from August 24th-October 9th. All campus galleries are open Monday-Friday 10am to 4pm. Have questions or want to know more about upcoming events? Visit our Virtual Arts Calendar (🔗link in bio) or email us at galleries@dallascollege.edu!
