7th Annual Tidewater Striders Duathlon 🏃‍♂️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Yesterday I had the privilege of serving as Race Director for the 7th Annual @tidewaterstriders Duathlon.

The weather could not have been more perfect. Overcast skies and temperatures in the upper 60s gave our athletes ideal conditions to run, bike, and compete.

What I love most about this event is that there truly is something for everyone. Whether you’re an experienced athlete tackling the Sprint Duathlon, trying multisport for the very first time in our Novice Division, or one of the many young athletes participating in our Kids Mini Duathlon, this event is designed to be an introduction to the incredible world of multisport racing.

Seeing first-timers cross the finish line, watching experienced athletes chase personal goals, and seeing kids discover the joy of competition is why we do this.

Of course, race day is only the visible part.

Behind the scenes there are permits, insurance, medals, shirts, bibs, awards, packet pickup, volunteer recruitment, food, entertainment, medical planning, marketing, social media, and yes… making sure there are enough porta-potties. 😂

But when race morning arrives, none of that is what I remember.

What I remember are the smiles.

The excitement at the start line.

The encouragement from volunteers.

The determination of the athletes.

The proud faces of parents watching their kids race.

Most of all, I remember the incredible community that makes events like this possible.

To every volunteer who gave their time, every athlete who participated, every family member who cheered, and every Tidewater Strider who helped make this event a success—thank you.

Special thanks to Pedal! Bicycle Company @pedalbicycleco for hosting packet pickup and providing race day support, and local singing legend @jennifergammill for singing the National Anthem.

Bringing events like this to our running community brings me so much joy, and I am already looking forward to next year.

❤️

It takes a village to raise a child - and mine showed up on Saturday to help me tackle a crazy goal! I am so grateful for these incredible people who didn’t even blink when I suggested it. Thank you to everyone who shared some or all of the miles, helped me during the training, or just reached out to cheer me on. It means more than you know 🩷

@jandaracing @adp Corporate 5K photo dump!!! 📸🏃🏾‍♂️🔥

It has been a true honor to represent the @point2running and @flatoutevents brands at these races. This journey has built so many amazing friendships and connected me with accountability partners who ensure we all show up as our best selves, no matter where we are.

And yes—we definitely have a ton of fun out there, but that’s because we all work so hard behind the scenes to accomplish our goals! 🦾✨

It is truly a blessing to continue meeting real-life superheroes on this running journey—not just within my local communities at @point2running, @flatoutevents, @ngurunclub757, and @blackmenrunhrva, but also all the new ones I meet along the way. ✊🏽

Happy Birthday, @point2running! 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽

Celebrating 15 years with a 5K was an incredible way to spend the morning. So many amazing people showed up and absolutely crushed it! ✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽

Shoutout to Superwoman @tddallas2012: You blew right past me—all I could see was your cape leaving me in the dust! Keep inspiring everyone by shining your light wherever you go. 🫶🏽

Shoutout to my bro @agore001: We run together so often that it was only natural for us to catch each other on the course. We pushed each other the whole way; it’s a true blessing to have a brother who keeps you aiming for your best, even when you’re tempted to slack off! 😂✊🏽

Shoutout to Speedy Superwoman @miss_marie4: Thanks for capturing my finish! You’re so fast that you had time to change into something comfy and eat breakfast before I even crossed the line. 😂 Keep being the push I need and a constant example of excellence. 🫶🏽

Still trying to process today. 🫶✨

Our Eras Run fundraiser was everything I hoped for and more. Thank you to every single person who came out to run, cheer, donate, volunteer, dress up, hype us up, and support from afar. The amount of love and encouragement today was unreal.

I went way outside my comfort zone planning this event and doing something that honestly felt a little scary, and I’m so glad I did. Watching this community show up the way you did reminded me why I love this running community so much.

Because of YOU, we not only reached our goal, we surpassed it. We raised $1,165 for HER Shelter. 🤍

I’m incredibly grateful for the people in my life who believed in me enough to help me pull this off. Today was so special, and I had the best time planning every part of it.

But we’re not done yet 👟

Next up is the Point 2 Running Company 5K on May 31!
💥 $15 registration TODAY ONLY ($20 after today)
🏁 Certified course
⏱️ Timed race
❤️ Every dollar goes directly to HER Shelter

Let’s keep this momentum going and see how much of an impact we can make in our community together.
