The Writers Grotto exists because writers show up for each other — and because people like you show up for us.

For 30 years, this community of 190+ working writers and narrative artists has depended on donors to keep membership affordable, fund scholarships, and hold space in one of the most expensive cities in the country.

When you give, you're not just supporting an organization — you're joining a community that believes every writer deserves a place to do the work.

Your donation is tax-deductible. The Writers Grotto is a 501(c)(3) (Tax ID 84-3889127).

How lovely that the colors found each other. A rose photographed by my daughter in the early evening, and a golden-hour coastal hike photographed by Tara. No filters. Beauty in the roses and light, and beauty in my friend. 🌹

Very fun sold-out panel on Unconventional Paths to Publishing at @litquake today (spoiler alert, they are all unconventional—publishing paths are like snowflakes!)

Much thanks to @janine.kovac for the invite, to @matthewfelix for being a moderator extraordinaire and to fellow panelists @tdorabji @audthentic_stories @mariannelonsdale

Take aways? Every path is different, build community, develop your chops, celebrate the small wins, expects lots of rejection, say yes to small opportunities, be persistent, don’t be afraid to ask for help.

✍️ Litquake is underway!
Looking forward not only to tomorrow’s opening night celebrations, but to Sunday, when I have the honor of moderating a panel for those interested in alternate paths to publishing: « The Unconventional Author: Side Doors and Secret Passages to Publication. »
Join me along with Marianne Lonsdale, Wendy Johnson, Tara Dorabji, and Regina Louise for what promises to be an enlightening discussion about alternative ways of getting from manuscript to publication.

I am excited and honored to be invited to @litquake, a very cool month-long literary extravaganza in the Bay Area. I’ll be on this panel discussing alternate paths to publishing: “The Unconventional Author: Side Doors and Secret Passages to Publication.”

Looking forward to sharing the winding story of how I found my excellent publisher @natlanticbooks (or how we found each other!)

Thanks @janine.kovac for the invite!

So… I’m up to something new! Ever since @theadopteeclown taught me how to make candles this summer, I’ve been having so much fun with them. And I’ve come up with the idea of making book-themed candles for authors and those who love them! Right now I’m just testing and experimenting and gifting, and also trying out book themed magnetic bookmarks (!). Consider this my softest of soft launches. If you’d like me to make you a book swag bundle, let me know! What do you think?
