POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

On 17 July 2026, we completed an independent inspection of the Aylesham Centre, recording concerns including:

🟠 Damaged and sagging bird-control netting
🟠 Bird fouling and nesting material above walkways, market stalls and food areas
🟠 Potential hygiene concerns
🟠 Peeling paint and deteriorated finishes
🟠 Graffiti at the entrance

Although no food contamination was observed, the position of the fouling above food-trading areas requires proper assessment.

Credit where it’s due, Cllr Reginald Popoola responded within minutes of our original email, agreed that the centre had been allowed to deteriorate and confirmed he would speak with council officers about the concerns.

On 17 July 2026, Southwark Council’s Regulatory Health & Safety Team also confirmed that enquiries would be made into the issues we raised.

We are now awaiting a further update on the outcome of those enquiries, any proposed actions and the expected timescale for improvements.

The Aylesham Centre remains an important part of Peckham and deserves to be clean, safe and well maintained for traders, residents and visitors alike.

This work isn’t about criticising for the sake of it. It’s about identifying genuine issues, documenting them professionally and working constructively with those responsible to secure improvements @southwarkcouncil
