The work nobody saw was often the work that defined Eddie. Brian Kaufman remembers Eddie in the basement hitting ball after ball into a net…sometimes until his hands blistered because he “had to work something out in his swing.” That was Eddie. A perfectionist. A student of the game. A standout golfer and baseball player who put in the work long before anyone was watching. At the first annual Eddie Kaufman Memorial Match, Brian reflected on those memories, Eddie’s legacy and what it meant to see Lakeland and Mid Valley honor him nearly one year after his passing. So, let’s talk about last night… At the beginning of the school year, the grassroots Sports Media group consisted of only three students. Over the course of the year more and more students found interest in what we were trying to accomplish, be the marketing arm of the athletic department and create content that no other school in the area was doing. Fast forward to last night, 11 students put on what may have been impossible 12 mouths ago and put on the first ever Athletics Awards Night for Mid Valley! 15 students won awards over the course of the night in 20 different categories, all voted on by their peers. We want to thank the parents, coaches, and especially the student-athletes for making last night possible. Without of the accomplishments of our student-athletes throughout the year, last night would not have been possible. Two extra special thanks yous are in order. Thank you to Mr. Brian Kaufman, his family, and the Live For Me Foundation for being in attendance last night and Mr. Kaufman for being our keynote speaker and delivering a powerful speech that no one in the audience will ever forget. Finally, we want to thank our athletic director and athletic trainer, Tom Nowakowski. Without his support and his ability to give us the freedom to deliver content that our teams and programs deserve, none of this would not have been possible. As we get closer to tomorrow's night award show, we want to clear up some confusion and make some announcements! This event is a public, free-of-charge event for anyone to attend! Doors will open at 5:30 P.M., with the slideshow starting as everyone begins to come into the auditorium. The show will start at 6 P.M. There is no set dress code for the event; however, we encourage all athletes to come wearing any medals they earned this school year. Finally, we are pleased to announce that Mr. Brian Kaufman will be the keynote speaker for tomorrow night's award show! We are looking forward to seeing everyone there!

With the weight of 9 months of treatment and the strength of an entire community behind him, Eddie threw out the first pitch before the Phillies game — a moment of pure courage, hope, and love.
