RACE DEBRIEF: Chicago Marathon 2026 ⭐
Still in two minds about this result.
Finishing with an official time of 3:15 was a great PB and over three minutes quicker than my London Marathon earlier this year.
Training was super consistent with higher mileage, ticking all the boxes is something I’m proud of with this one.
I would definitely have been delighted with 3:15 at the start of my training block. However, as things progressed, I really felt I could be pushing closer to 3:10 which is what I programmed ahead of race day.
What I couldn’t control though, was record October temperatures for Chicago, and whilst the race started coolish around 16 degrees, it soon got over 21 degrees mid race and things started to get hard for me.
Seeing my pace drop off is not something I’m delighted about, and I would love to have been able to hold on for closer to 3:10, but I have to take the positives that I’m definitely moving in the right direction. Being able to comfortably sustain such a good pace for me in the first 30km was a great feeling, like everything just clicked. Could I have handled it better as the sun came out? I don’t know.
Not to mention the challenges I experienced with sleep on this transatlantic event, my body was all over the place.
Either way, it was a pleasure to run around such a great city, Chicago was marathon crazy for the whole weekend and everyone made you feel like a hero. I’d run it again in a heartbeat.
As always, thanks to the dynamic duo from @teameliterunning for pushing me harder and believing in me.
Focus turns to NYC Half and London Marathon in 2027.✌🏼

Approached today’s 24km run in search of confidence.
With 2 weeks to go, a positive mindset is what is going to deliver the result I deserve after many weeks of consistent hard work without disruptions.
The dynamic duo from @teameliterunning wanted 40 minutes of marathon pace from me, but I guess I wanted to prove to myself that I am in a good place. Nothing silly, just let the legs do what felt comfortable and nailed some really nice miles at a sensible heart rate.
I’ve done the hard work, now I need to just believe in it, stay mentally strong and focus on hitting that finish line with my head held high.✌🏼
Congratulations to anyone who completed the Berlin marathon today, massive fomo for me as I loved being there in 2024, but my turn is coming soon.🙏

What a better way to spend a Saturday night than running with friends, music, food, beer & prizes 🪩 🏃‍♀️

One big race at 8pm - adults and kids, a safe closed road, see the sights of the town and then food and drinks afterwards in the park!

Always get a little nervous before a tough interval session. But trust the process, trust the warm up and listen to the body. FELT QUITE GOOD!
👉🏼Warm up - 7 x 2km - Cool down.
Surprised myself to be honest. I utilised my Saucony Endorphin Elite 2s to help me push harder with that extra soft cushioning to protect my shins! Worked beautifully.
Picked up the pace through the reps, legs felt strong. I am definitely feeling it now though…🫠
Thankfully, a delightful rest day before a big weekend.
Let’s go.

The last few weeks of high miles have definitely taken their toll on me. Was not sure how I was going to get this one done. But a new pair of shoes and a bit of mental strength got the job done.
I think this is the first time I’ve maintained this weekly mileage for so long, so the body is not loving it. Just praying to feel fresh again for race day in 5 weeks time
and hopefully it all pays off…🙏

The combination of Fontaines DC and Strava is exactly what the band would have wanted for their music, I’m sure.
Super leggy 32km in the bank today with 6 weeks to go until the @chimarathon. Feet were not delighted about it after being at Reading Festival all day and night, Friday.
Either way, we are living life and getting the job done at the same time.
Looking forward to another week of work to come.

When did 18km on a Wednesday become normal?🤮
A 15km tempo run with warm up and cool down to be precise. Pushed it pretty hard, hopefully just the right amount. But either way, super pleased to be able to hold a strong pace for over an hour.
Tasty little 32km run to look forward to this weekend…hahah. Oh dear.

This one was actually quite a fun one, bizarrely. Never know what to expect from @teameliterunning when my marathon plans for the week arrive. But one way or another I’m getting it done.
Keep up the good work everyone.🙏💪🏼

It’s amazing when that session you were dreading turns out great. I was fully expecting a horrible long Sunday run after a day out and dancing at a music event.
Somehow the quadruple espresso was enough to inspire a strong 16 mile run with a lot of goal marathon pace.
With 8 weeks to go until the @chimarathon, there’s going to be plenty of tough sessions on tired legs. Time to dig in.
