The foundation of Oceanview Papermakers will be our beater. Today we began the maintenance and rust removal. I’m still recovering and couldn’t help much, but @teddymilder @ingebruggeman @lcrodondi and @kategokastudio got in there and made progress on our Voist Valley beater.

I just reviewed collective grief - in memoriam, a collaborative installation by Lori Goodman and Teddy Milder, for Sculpture - link in bio. The installation, which consists of over 100 individually fabricated armatures in handmade paper, is now on view in “Where the Spirit Meets the Bone: Grief and Healing” at Arts Benecia through Dec. 21.

Ice dyeing with fresh indigo grown by @teddymilder ! A short recap of the process and results - blending the fresh leaves with cold water and ice, straining out the leafy bits from the fresh dye, and various stages of our experiments on silk and linen. This process definitely works best on protein fibers (silk, in our case), the last slide shows the dry fabrics, from left to right are silk dipped four times from the start of the vat, silk dipped three times when the vat was almost done, linen dipped four times, linen dipped twice, linen dipped four times that had been previously coated with soy milk, and linen dipped twice that had previously been dyed with oxalis.

Some of the pieces I loved: M Eiffler’s “Sensation Models,” Hilda Ibarra Halcy’s self-portraits, Matthau Lam’s aluminum foil “Godzilla,” and some gorgeous pieces made from musical instruments (unfortunately I did not get the artist’s name).
