My poem, HALF-FILLED, was published in print and featured online in @tendrilsjournal Issue 2: Trauma and the Environment.

This poem is about what people leave behind and what refuses to leave with them.

I am grateful to Tendrils Journal for featuring my piece and giving this poem paper flesh.

Read it via the direct link in comments or my website in bio.

“Psychology, scientific imagery, and my own self-reflection inform my process. I constantly think about the space inside the body and between people and families.”

“As a trauma survivor, artmaking has been integral to my healing journey.”

“It’s where I investigate my experiences, explore my past and expand my capacity for healing and connection. I started Tendrils journal as a place where art and literature can foster healing and spark conversations around such a complex and multifaceted subject.”

Rebecca Perez (@creativeexpansionwarrior) is a mixed-media artist, who explores matrilineal memory and lineage. This work focuses on the bata, an everyday house dress, which was worn by her grandmother, great-aunts, and great-grandmother as they cooked, cleaned, raised children, and held families together. She uses the garments as both canvas and material to take apart, sew, reattach, paint, and draw on; channeling the life experiences of many generations of her Latina family and making something new.

Perez started Tendrils journal as a place where art and literature can foster healing and spark conversations around healing and connection. Learn more and purchase your copy at tendrilsjournal.com

INTRODUCING STUDIO ARTIST: Rebecca Perez @creativeexpansionwarrior

Rebecca Perez is a mixed-media artist with a background in painting and graphic design, she explores themes of trauma, motherhood, and healing, drawing on research in psychology and sociology to inform her artistic process. Her interest lies in the profound effects of loss and its ripple effects on families and communities.

In her art practice, she interprets these concepts through an intuitive and gestural style, prioritizing movement and emotion. As the Founder and Creative Director of Tendrils journal, she supports trauma survivors, artists and writers through an annual art & literary publication and trauma informed events.

An absolutely enormous THANK YOU to CLMP and the panel of judges for naming us a finalist in the Firecracker Award’s Magazines/Best Debut category! It’s unreal to be a finalist alongside these four groundbreaking mags. Strange Hymnal is our little team of three’s passion project, and it’s such an incredible honor to be recognized by an organization we’ve admired for so many years. We love our mag, we love these mags, we love CLMP, we love this community, we love you. 👁️🧨
