e-Book is NOW!!!

“With this book, he honours the value of his lived experiences and inspires us to do the same.”
– Pat Beaven (Dancer, Actor, educator, dance instructor, and author of Caught In the ‘Trap, and Working Actor

“His story is a whirlwind of passion and fearlessness that will leave you inspired.”
– Kenny Pearl (Former dancer with Alvin Ailey, A.D. of Toronto Dance Theatre, and former instructor at Toronto Metropolitan University)

“…beautiful writing that weaves gratitude, bravery and love”
– Joan Phillips (dancer, choreographer, educator)

A best-selling memoir taking the form of a series of anecdotes, Allen Kaeja pays tribute, with a beautiful mix of humour and poignancy, to people who have shaped his life and career. I Found My Dance in a Bomb Shelter: Anecdotes of Gratitude from A Life in Dance, is filled with stories about the people and encounters that have shaped Allen Kaeja as a son, brother, husband, father, and artist.

From childhood antics to youthful years of elite wrestling competitions and then the epiphany of following his passion for dance, Allen's life is a story of discovery and the courage to push boundaries. Through it all weaves a thread of intergenerational trauma as the son of a Holocaust survivor. These anecdotes will amuse, inspire, and move all those who read this book about a life well lived, the importance of family, and the power of community.

Generously illustrated, the book also features QR codes that transport the reader to video footage of Kaeja’s choreography. The book is co-published by Dance Collection Danse Press/Presses and Kaeja d’Dance.

Get your copy today in softcover or e-book with BONUS CONTENT (75 additional photos, colour images, 7 bonus chapters including a snapshot of Karen Kaeja’s early years in dance) - https://dcd.ca/product/ifoundmyeboook/

With my Co-Director Mike Wallace @theatremuseumcanada and Amy Bowring ED of @dancecollectiondanse. Discussing some very exciting upcoming collaborations against the backdrop of DCD's collections. I'm enjoying my new position immensely, celebrating artists and the contributions of the performing arts to Canada. #madeincanada
