I hope they always know what Home feels like.

The light through the trees.
Their bare feet connected with the Earth, rough on tree bark, soft in soil.
The warmth of the Sun on their bodies.
The sounds and smells of the living woods.
The appreciation of growing food.
The joy in doing things together as a family.
The beauty in each season that passes.

I hope the Home that lives in their hearts feels like deep love, connection, and gratitude.

Did you know our company name; Terra Nova means New Earth?
We chose it because we believe in a mindful approach to caring for the land and wilderness we are fortunate to steward.

Every season we try to do more, to give back:
• planting a tree for every removal in a season! 🌳
• repurposing chip in a multitude of ways!
• inoculating dead oak logs with mushroom spores to provide our family with food 🍄
• firewood to help heat our home in winter! 🪵

Thankful. ✨🤍

10 years ago this August, we promised forever; “through Hell and high water.”
These past 6 months put us through just that.

You would never know, looking at our sweet, smiling boy, the misery he’s endured. The insane levels of sleep deprivation and pain, from acid reflux that reigned for months on end.

I’ve thought countless times about how I might share our story along the way…
but when we were in the thick of it, the sorrow felt while trying to survive this difficult time was drowning us.
It felt impossible to rise and connect.

So I tread lightly on social media, we leaned into any bright moments we could manage through summer, I slept every second I was able to steal.. as I spent hours upon hours holding Shiloh, pacing through the nights while he endured reflux episodes, unable to settle.

You really learn the depths of your community when you go through something like this. Something that bends you til you break and then some.

So on this weekend of shedding light for Thankfulness, I want to share our immense gratitude for the relentless support of my parents, family, friends, neighbours.. the countless waves of meals, hugs, words of encouragement, ears to listen, shoulders to cry on, babysitting O while I went to specialist appt after appt with Shi, holding him while I showered or napped, walking our dogs, picking up groceries, you name it. We had the support.

We just didn’t have the answers, until recently.
It’s too long and complicated to share in any one post as to How, Why, and WTF happened to cause and then cure Shiloh’s silent acid reflux.

The point is, he’s been off meds for weeks now without a single episode.
AND last week Shi was cleared by the ENT that his anatomical ability to swallow was perfect, inflammation was no longer present, and it was safe for us to begin sleep training without fear of him aspirating on his own saliva.

I’m so freaking thrilled to say, we are all sleeping longer than 15-45min at a time now, and our world has completely changed for the better.

Thankful. 🤍

These photos taken by my bro @wildhousemedia last week will forever bring tears to my eyes as a mile marker for the shift in our story.
