One of the things I care most about is how public space is lived, felt and negotiated. So being part of this project with the @gabrielcaruanafoundation felt very close to home.

It began almost two years ago, led by @raffaellaz and together with @tina.sidelinestudios, working with children and young people. Walking together, sitting in classrooms, drawing, shaping clay, listening. Small stories about where they feel safe, where they don’t, where they like to be and what they want to see more of. Over time, this became an archive of sorts, filled with shared experiences, drawings and conversations.

Fast forward two years, this research took a physical form. Together with @textcatalogue (@e.fles and @drm.ndrw), I worked through a co-design process to develop modular, site-specific structures that can shift between benches, tables and small gathering spaces, changing shape across Żurrieq, Safi and Kirkop.

We used simple, off-the-shelf and reused materials. And with @adriangauci, many of the children’s stories were translated into hand-drawn visuals embedded within the structures themselves.

After a communal table in Kirkop last weekend, the work continues to move. Safi this weekend, Żurrieq next. What form will it take? 🤔

It feels important that it remains open, unfinished, shaped through use. So if you encounter it, don’t just look: sit, move things around, leave a trace 💛

This touring exhibition brings together modular structures, illustrations, photographs, posters, and clay works created through an art-based, community-led research process. Research team: Raffaella Zammit (Research Lead, GCF) and Martina Camilleri (Co-Researcher, GCF).
