FINAL DAY ✨ Carmen Mardonez | Chromatic Solace

Today is the final day of Chromatic Solace, and we’re taking a moment to look back at some of the many wonderful people who have stepped through the doors since we opened in March.
What a joy this exhibition has been. To see people encounter Carmen’s work for the first time — stopping, looking, talking, touching, smiling — and to welcome collectors, curators, artists, students, friends and so many new faces has been incredibly special.

A huge thank you to everyone who visited, shared the exhibition, joined our events, wrote about the work and supported Carmen and the show. And thank you to our generous hosts at @tmlighting for giving these extraordinary works the space to breathe and bringing the extraordinary colours beautifully to life.

Most of all, congratulations to Carmen. 💗
This exhibition sees the beginning of an exciting new chapter when the large scale title-piece Chromatic Solace travels to its next stop: @phillymagicgardens, where Carmen’s solo exhibition opens in May 2027 — with several other exciting projects underway here in the UK that we hope to share very soon.
For now, thank you for all the colour, warmth and joy, Carmen.

Keep watching. Keep making. ✨

My work featured in 𝘛𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘹 𝘈𝘳𝘵, a new Thames & Hudson publication by Ramona Barry and Beck Jobson—exploring the powerful role textiles play in shaping contemporary art.

—

Textile art has surged into the spotlight, shedding its long-standing association with domesticity and craft to take centre stage in galleries, biennales and critical discourse. Authors Ramona Barry and Beck Jobson explore this vibrant resurgence, and the way artists across the globe are embracing traditional techniques like weaving, embroidery, quilting and dyeing, while pushing them into bold new territory. Far from decorative or nostalgic, these works speak to urgent contemporary themes: identity, gender, migration and environment.

Textiles have become a site of resistance, storytelling and innovation. This global survey of forty-four artists reveals the shifting boundaries between craft and fine art, and the expressive power of cloth in the hands of today's most boundary-pushing creatives. Textile art isn't just having a moment, it's reshaping the conversation.
