I said I wouldn’t stop and I meant it.

After my video to Dyson went viral I wrote to the government team in charge of occupational standards as an advocate, author, educator, member of the @britishbeautycouncil hair task force and a black woman with an Afro herself, asking simply for Afro and curly hair to be a required part of every government funded hairdressing and barbering qualification.

The communication so far has been promising and ongoing, moving us in the right direction, they agree something needs to change and have scheduled a number of meetings to speak to me and others in the industry about what needs to be done and when.

But understand that this is MOVEMENT, we are by no means anywhere near the finish line.

Pressure is still very much being applied to the UK government to ensure that Afro and curly haired consumers can be properly catered for and served across the UK, and I am happy to volunteer as tribute to ensure the pressure is not removed until that happens.

However long it takes.

Thankyou @ericaliburdofficial @textureunravelled for all your help and hard work in this space and for guiding me on the key issues that need to be addressed for us to see real change.

This was the first of hopefully many more important discussions with the UK government TO ENSURE that this conversation never has to happen ever again.

By far one of the BEST purchases of 2026 and created by the incredible @towngirldisco

We’re in 2026, why do hood dryers look like they’re stuck in the 80’s? Come on guys… we can do better no?!

I can’t tell you how much of a talking point our dryer is and clients frikkin love it, matches our mirrorballs perfectly!

I remember on my work experience in a little sleepy village salon I actually fell asleep under the dryers 😂 the owner wrote on my notes “hope you enjoyed your nap” haha!

I will constantly be reinvesting into our salon and can’t wait for the next one. The hood dryers form part of our Blessed energy ritual where we set the hair in place before cutting.

We’re still looking for Afro/tight curl models and offering 30% off the Blessed light ritual DM for more details!

⛔I had a negative view of my curly hair growing up. In fact, I hated it. I wanted long blonde straight hair, not to feel like Hagrid every morning when I brushed my hair ready for school. 😔

I decided it was something I would have to battle with. Each and every morning to beat it down until poker straight with 230° heat, and eventually bleach 🫣 (but that's another story).

I ruined my hair after 9 years of both chemical and heat/mechanical damage. But then in 2019 I decided enough was enough and I chose to start focusing on the integrity of my hair. But to do this it would mean ditching the straighteners, which forced me to embrace my natural curls. 😬
However, they were barely present, the odd kink here and there, frizz and some undefined waves.

Fast forward a couple of years later, and a lot of TLC I finally nursed my curls back into health 🙌. Now 7 years later, I still share my journey with my clients who are struggling with their hair, hoping that somewhere along the way, I will not only save them from my hair disasters, but to let them know their hair is beautiful, every curl, every wave, every kink, is individual.
It's unique to them like a fingerprint 🫆 and it BEAUTIFUL 😍

I only wish I had someone to tell 10 year old me that my hair was beautiful, how to look after it, a way for me to love it rather than loathe it.

I want to be that person for you.

And in order to be that person I needed more than just my own experience. I needed to invest into a wealth of knowledge, learn from the best people, and I did. I still am, learning never stops, but my confidence grows 🪴
And I would like you to be part of that journey. So whether you follow me, or sit in my chair I hope i give you the confidence to love and embrace yourself, exactly as you are, one kink and one curl l at a time 💜

TEXTURE UNRAVELED W/ ERICA LIBURD

Back in June I travelled to Northampton to learn from globally renowned textured hair educator @ericaliburdofficial

We got to cover everything from cutting+ styling, to learning the impact behind the history and language used around textured hair.
This wasn't just learning how to cut black hair. This was deep diving into the culture, gaining deeper insights, leading to better understanding but also respect and appreciation.

I cannot wait to keep learning and growing as a person, and a hairstylist to ensure everyone is welcome in my chair 🫶❤️

When the educators need to be educated!!

Last week the learning practitioners on the National Hairdressing Apprenticeship programme took part in an Afro hair cutting workshop with the wonderfully talented @textureunravelled @ericaliburdofficial.

Here we got to freshen up our styling techniques and learn new cutting techniques when working with African Caribbean hair.

We are currently looking for some models with African Caribbean hair so our fantastic apprentices can get the chance to learn new skills and eventually go on to offer hairdressing services to everyone in our community ❤️ 💙 💜

If you are interested, please pop me a DM and I will give you further details 😘.
