POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Two years ago, I probably wouldn’t have claimed it, but my father and I are a lot alike. The grit. The honesty--whether you want to hear it or not. The fight in us to go after what we want and to make something happen when we believe in it.

Today, the City of Trenton honored my father with Kenneth Bullock Grove and I’m proud of what this sign represents.

It honors a man whose commitment to his city wasn’t just something he talked about--it was something he practiced. The free haircuts. The toy drives. The fish fries. The pantry. The countless ways he gave, served, and showed up for people without needing recognition for it.

As I get older, I see more clearly the pieces of him that live in me. And maybe I’m finally willing to claim them, too.

May my father’s legacy of giving continue to live through me. May this grove grow alongside the community he poured into near our family home. And may this sign always be a reminder to our family that what we build, how we serve, and what we leave behind matters.

This is legacy. This is family. This is Trenton. ❤️

LIBERTY, With Conditions

What happens when freedom is offered with conditions?

Beginning with the contradictions of liberty in 1776 and moving across generations, Liberty, With Conditions considers the wars we inherit, the systems we navigate, the choices we make to survive, and what freedom asks of us in return.

Historical. Contemporary. Personal. Ancestral. Local. Global.

This December, we invite you into an exhibition and immersive dinner experience that asks us to sit with the question of liberty and who has truly been allowed to claim it.

Exhibition: December 5, 2026 – January 16, 2027
Immersive Dinners: January 8 + 9 and January 15 + 16, 2027

Which one is your fave?

Your hyperlocal support can extend beyond boyc0tting am4z0n, I travel 15 mins for these nails and am able to support a local artist who serves wayyy harder than the service providers I’ve seen in the adjacents (NYC & PHL)—Jersey baddies, source your swag locally, PLS!

Assata Shakur teacher, revolutionary, survivor of state violence, remains a guiding light of resistance against anti-Black policing and U.S. imperialism. The NJ State Troopers who shot, beat, and imprisoned her then are the same forces terrorizing Black communities today. Yet, even in exile, Assata is proof that our struggle cannot be caged.

45 years later, the U.S. still holds a bounty over her head, proving this country punishes Black liberation harder than it punishes white supremacy. But exile is just another form of captivity and political prisoners exist beyond borders.

“We must accept the eventuality of bringing the U.S.A. to its knees; accept the closing off of critical sections of the city with barbed wire, armored pig carriers crisscrossing the streets, soldiers everywhere, tommy guns pointed at stomach level, smoke curling black against the daylight sky, the smell of cordite, house-to-house searches, doors being kicked in, the commonness of death.” -George Jackson

Working out the kinks of this but here is the first of a Liberation Zine series. Each zine will focus on a topic, event, theory, or revolutionary for political educational purposes. We want this to be free and accessible so if you have any suggestions in doing so DM us. This first zine centers the Pan African Revolutionary Amilcar Cabral. The speech discusses the importance of a revolutionary culture in the role of national liberation.

I’ve been anxiously thinking about a caption that would truly capture the building that happened this past Sunday. I guess I’ll start here…

I thought of Tha Block Trenton as an organization that would create initiatives around community needs and education through art and food. While not perfect, we continue to push through challenges for the sake of serving our community and redistributing access/challenging systems. I’ve been organizing since the age of 16 and I’ve never felt adequate enough to grasp materials because of my learning style. That’s obviously not true, but lack of technical skills creates insufficient teaching practices. Through my current work, I strive to learn more about different learning styles thus making key information accessible and equitable to learners including myself.

Two years ago I came up with an initiative that would allow folks to gather and work through community needs via affinity groups over a period of 10 weeks. That vision changed due to capacity, but nonetheless I was determined to have community members meet in a space around food and education. That vision became a reality this Sunday as Voices of Tha Block: Social Reproduction and Building Community.

I believe that gathering around food breaks down barriers of defense creating moments of vulnerability and joy. This past Sunday we collectively built a space of labor, education, conversation, community building, and joy. I don’t have many words to express the emotions that I feel, but I will start by saying thank you. Thank you to my brothers @theblackestphillip @thepickaninnyapostle, to my person for never being too far behind, to my momma @lenora.bullock for being my biggest fan since she birthed me, @djenabafigueroa for scooping in, to @capcityfarm for providing our produce, to those that spent their Sunday with us, @nayettemadeit for riding with me through error, and to @120eaststate for providing the space.

That’s all for now. More dinners to come.
