Mirror, mirror on the water 🏰✨ Long before the screams of rollercoasters filled the air, this view across the lake was all about pure Gothic grandeur! Did you know? 🏰 Ancestral Seat: This incredible stately home was the ancestral seat of the Earls of Shrewsbury. ⚔️ Deep Roots: The land has been settled since the Iron Age, later hosting a Saxon fort in 700 AD and a Norman castle in the 12th century. 🏛️ Pugin's Touch: The spectacular Gothic Revival transformation you see today was largely designed by famous architect A.W.N. Pugin in the early 1800s. 🌳 Victorian Original: Long before theme park rides arrived, the Earls opened the stunning grounds to the public way back in 1839 for garden walks and fireworks displays! Nothing beats capturing history reflected on a calm surface. 📸💙 #AltonTowers #AltonTowersResort #StatelyHome #GothicArchitecture #Staffordshire
