A room full of wealth advisors fact-checked me.

The night before my keynote in Calgary, I met half the room at the client reception. I was wearing this red suit.

Next morning, mid-talk, I said: "No one remembers yesterday. I can't even remember what I wore yesterday."

Turns out… they remembered.

After the talk, a line of advisors came up to correct me. One woman said she nearly jumped out of her chair to yell, "THE RED SUIT!"

People DO remember yesterday. They just remember what stands out.

So I will be wearing the red suit again.

Three days of intentional networking on the heels of a week of the same, and this introverted extrovert is spent and headed out on a family vacation.

AND. To be clear, my cup is FULL.

At @selena_soo ’s Rich Relationship event, we opened with grading ourselves on how we tend to our relationships. I gave myself a score of 56%.

Fifty-six.

In intentional networking.

YIKES.

Not in asking for support. That’s not where I struggle. It’s in the TENDING. The check-ins. Staying in contact with people I genuinely love in a way that matches how much I actually care about them.

I drop the ball.

And I HATE it. Hence the 56.

Which is why I need a system. One that’s mine, but not a rigid CRM, not just a cadence, nor a process that gamifies relationships into tasks.

Something that holds the intention without hollowing it out.

But as I look back in the last two weeks en route to the airport, it’s stunningly clear how rich my relationships truly are.

It was my beloved pal @julesyparker who introduced me to Selena in 2016 at her @bycacademy Inspiration Day in NYC, where I was the keynote.

Then the lovely @lisamcphee introduced me to super connector @dianaykchan who made sure Selena and I actually connected last November.

Which led to me to the honour of guest hosting Selena’s three-day intensive at @verityonqueen .

The relationships did the work I hadn’t systematized.

And the week before, so rich in connection and good work and fun. It was @svettybetty (the QUEEN) who has opened up the most extraordinary world of VC to me through @viaforvc (and even picked me up from LAX, which is its own category of care). Through her I’ve connected and worked with sincerely the most amazing humans. People who felt like mine the moment we met. @meredithtosta @mmacalusowithlove , @ashleycravens @hillarytyree. Hillary who intro’d me to @moniquecapra who intro’d me to @carolinehaleyes hosted the Women in Venture retreat.

Then there’s the world that @pamslim keeps unfurling for me including my newest speaker pal @thatlisabragg

I’m thinking I was a little hasty with my 56% grade after all. But still, I can do better.

If I owe you a touch point, it’s on its way.
Grateful.

You were told, "Put your head down, do good work, and eventually someone will notice you."

The advice wasn't wrong. It was just designed for a world that no longer exists.

How do you become a top nonfiction author? I learned 7 amazing tips at a lunch in Toronto with @pagetwo_books authors.

Think of your book as a Netflix comedy special. Perfect your material first by doing “open mic nights” (share your ideas in articles, etc.) - @lianedavey

Don’t write the first chapter first - it’s the hardest! Start with chapter 3 or 7 and then come back to it later. @bruce.mayhew

Develop a long-form writing habit to crystallize your ideas and find your voice. @cerebralselling

Prepare to market your book for the very long term. @thatlisabragg

Stack the deck in your favor and build a team if you work better collaboratively. @shedinspires

Create your followers intentionally by sharing your ideas early and gathering feedback - Bill G. Williams

And a bonus tip from Tessa Eisenberg, Page Two’s acquisitions lead: Don’t underestimate the importance of reviews. Plan a strategy in advance to get them.

Share this with your friends who are authors or aspiring authors!

No one wants to be promoted for being the “fill in the blank.”

A few years ago, I inherited a sponsorship program meant to advance racial equity.

So I paused and listened.

Every participant. Both sides. Real conversations.

And what I learned was this:

Good intent doesn’t fix broken systems.

So instead of maintaining segmented programs, our team partnered with business leaders to evolve the approach. We looked at who was missing from the table and focused on removing barriers to advancement.

Not creating separate lanes.

Fixing the road.

About a year into that role, I had the chance to talk about this on Lisa Bragg’s Bold(her) podcast.

Fast forward to this year, and I’m in the Bahamas at the BMO Private Wealth President’s Council meeting her in person while she’s there as a speaker.

Full circle.

Also very surreal to be included in her book, Bragging Rights (Page 63–64 🤭).

If you haven’t read it, you should. It’s all about owning your voice and being seen for your value.

Because being visible isn’t ego.
It’s access.
It’s opportunity.

And it’s how the right people stop being overlooked.

“What are you in town for?”

@trena.rae.white and I are often asked this question when we travel on @pagetwo_books business. We get on planes for many reasons, but to distill it to one word, we do it for connection.

Our authors live around the world, so we try to see them in person as often as we can. Especially if they’re launching new books, which was the case with @ujwal.arkalgud , @mbs_works, Shelli Baltman, and @fionastevenson. I was thrilled to celebrate their recent and forthcoming book launches over meals and drinks in Toronto this week.

We also love to meet authors we’ve been collaborating with in other ways, and friends of Page Two. This week I had the pleasure of catching up with authors @thatlisabragg and @shedinspires, and new friends @practicewithkara and Evan Shuster.

Then there’s our team. Page Two’s HQ is on the West Coast but we have an Eastern team too, and this week I met up with Toronto team member @tessa_eisenberg to celebrate her recent promotion to Acquisitions Lead.

Last but not least, we travel to develop new initiatives. This week I toured several great venue candidates for this fall’s Page Two Author Summit – a day of learning, networking, and socializing to forge connections among our authors.

In every meeting and visit, the power of human connection – in all of its generative glory – was palpable. Our author community is extraordinary and they deserve a connected publishing community to help them write the best possible books. It’s a privilege to globe-trot in pursuit of that goal ✈️ 📚

Our next With Heart Book Circle kicks off on April 17th, where we’ll be reading 'Bragging Rights: How to Talk About Your Work Using Purposeful Self Promotion' with author, acclaimed speaker and advisor Lisa Bragg @thatlisabragg!

We’ve long been told, “Put your head down, do good work, and eventually someone will notice you.” But that limiting and diminishing advice doesn’t hold up in the noise and pace of these transformative times. The reality is, no one cares about your future the way you do. If you want to achieve remarkable results, it’s up to you to talk about your successes and accomplishments.

In this book, Lisa shares how to:
✨ Get comfortable owning and sharing your strengths
✨ Understand why so many of us struggle to speak up
✨ Use authentic self-promotion as a catalyst for growth and impact

Through research, real-world insights, and practical tools, you’ll learn how to confidently communicate your true superpowers and open the door to new opportunities while lifting others along the way.
