A room full of wealth advisors fact-checked me.

The night before my keynote in Calgary, I met half the room at the client reception. I was wearing this red suit.

Next morning, mid-talk, I said: "No one remembers yesterday. I can't even remember what I wore yesterday."

Turns out… they remembered.

After the talk, a line of advisors came up to correct me. One woman said she nearly jumped out of her chair to yell, "THE RED SUIT!"

People DO remember yesterday. They just remember what stands out.

So I will be wearing the red suit again. taken in Calgary, Alberta by @thatlisabragg

As we share Dad wisdom today on Father’s Day, my dad would tell me in calls before I went on to anchor the news or cover a story, “Sparkle, Lisa, sparkle.”

It was something Shirley Temple’s mother Gertrude, would tell the American children star before she went on stage, or the cameras rolled.

I still think of that advice before I go on stage or hit record. by @thatlisabragg

You were told, "Put your head down, do good work, and eventually someone will notice you."

The advice wasn't wrong. It was just designed for a world that no longer exists.

How do you become a top nonfiction author? I learned 7 amazing tips at a lunch in Toronto with @pagetwo_books authors.

Think of your book as a Netflix comedy special. Perfect your material first by doing “open mic nights” (share your ideas in articles, etc.) - @lianedavey

Don’t write the first chapter first - it’s the hardest! Start with chapter 3 or 7 and then come back to it later. @bruce.mayhew

Develop a long-form writing habit to crystallize your ideas and find your voice. @cerebralselling

Prepare to market your book for the very long term. @thatlisabragg

Stack the deck in your favor and build a team if you work better collaboratively. @shedinspires

Create your followers intentionally by sharing your ideas early and gathering feedback - Bill G. Williams

And a bonus tip from Tessa Eisenberg, Page Two’s acquisitions lead: Don’t underestimate the importance of reviews. Plan a strategy in advance to get them.

Share this with your friends who are authors or aspiring authors!

"... change happens as a result of intensity and then maintained by consistency." Those words were written for me. I'm great at the intensity part (likely honed by my days as a broadcast journalist), but it's the consistency part that trips me up again and again.
