Flashback Friday: CIAA 2026 was truly an unforgettable experience!

I was able to perform Lift Every Voice and Sing and have my own halftime show!

While unforeseen circumstances prevented our students from performing this year, we were still honored to be present and represented through the incredible artistry of @l.stringz, who stepped in and delivered a powerful performance on our behalf.

Moments like these remind us that the mission goes beyond the stage—it’s about creating and ceasing opportunities and continuing to create spaces where community and culture intersect. Special S/O to Ms. Candace and Rocky of MC3 Sports for believing in us and providing us with the opportunity. We’re grateful to have been part of such an amazing event and look forward to even more opportunities to uplift and showcase the next generation of musicians.

All praise to The Most High for establishing our steps and thank you to everyone who supported and made this experience meaningful.

Blessed and honored to present at the 2026 Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference of the College Music Society!

Being in a space with so many brilliant educators, scholars, and creatives reminded me how important it is to keep pushing the conversation forward in music education. I had the opportunity to present my paper on modern music education and explore new ways we can connect traditional pedagogy with contemporary musical practices.

The discussions, feedback, and ideas shared throughout the conference were incredibly inspiring, and I’m excited to continue building on this work.

Thank you to the CMS committee for allowing me to present and a special S/O to @annieneikirk who’s continuous support to her students make opportunities like this possible!

If you’d like to dive deeper into the topic:
• The paper and resources are available on my website: thatsgoodent.org (Oxúm Prodductions LLC - Blog)
• A FREE PDF of the presentation slides is also available.

Just comment “Dilla Method” and I’ll send it to you.

Let’s keep reimagining how we teach, learn, and create music. 🎶📚

Graduate Lecture-Recital Recap Series: Buried Chronicles Movement III – Ancestral Jubilee

Welcome to the last performance of my Graduate Lecture-Recital Recap Series! Today, I’m honored to share the final movement of Buried Chronicles: Ancestral Jubilee.

This movement is rooted in Matthew 16:24:
“Then Yeshua said to His disciples, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.’”

For those who know me, they know that I am a dancer first. Dance has always been my first love—a gift placed within me by YAH. With Ancestral Jubilee, I was able to reconnect with that love, visualizing my prayers and personal walk with Yeshua as I strive to live like Him. Though I often fall short, He is always there—walking with me, talking with me, and even teaching me to dance again…in the midst of suffering.

Performed by the Norfolk State University Percussion Ensemble, this movement builds on the progression of the previous two, culminating in a celebration of joy and restoration. Each member of the percussion ensemble represents my passed-on family and friends, whose spirits I imagine rejoicing in heaven. As I regain my joy, they cheer me on, encouraging me to continue walking in faith and fulfilling my purpose.

One dream I’ve always had was to learn to tap dance but often found excuses not to pursue it. With this piece, that dream finally came true. A heartfelt thank you to my brother @_all_spence , Spencer Augustine, for teaching me the basics and partnering with me on the choreography. Your support made this moment possible, and I’m forever grateful.

Ancestral Jubilee is more than a performance—it’s a testament to perseverance, faith, and the joy found in trusting YAH. I hope it inspires you to reconnect with your passions and remember that even in hardship, there is reason to dance.
What brings you joy and connects you to your faith or heritage? Let’s reflect in the comments.

Graduate Lecture-Recital Recap Series: Buried Chronicles Movement II – Sufferer’s Delight

Welcome to the seventh installment of my Graduate Lecture-Recital Recap Series! Today, I’m diving into the second movement of Buried Chronicles: Sufferer’s Delight.

This movement reflects the powerful truth of Proverbs 25:2: “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.”

For a long time, I believed that seeking YAH meant shouldering the world’s burdens alone—unbothered and stoic. But I’ve come to realize that self-reliance can lead to unnecessary solitude. Even YAH declared that man should not be alone. True strength lies in submitting to Him and admitting my human weaknesses. Only then can I call on the Father for help—and He always comes.

Sufferer’s Delight is written as a duet for piano and vibraphone, shifting through A minor, E Phrygian, and ultimately resolving in C major. Each melodic line carries hidden lyrics that illustrate my journey of long suffering, perseverance, and ultimate surrender. The movement is a prayer—a conversation between myself and YAH—as I navigate the challenges of leaning on Him and those who love me.

🎹Piano x @mr.hop3_
🥢Vibraphone x @iprofessori

This piece is a reminder that there is beauty in surrender and that we were never meant to walk through life’s hardships alone. By trusting in YAH and His strength, we can find true relief and restoration.

I pray Sufferer’s Delight resonates with you and encourages you to seek His help in moments of weakness. Stay tuned as we move into the final movement of Buried Chronicles!

Have you experienced the strength that comes from surrendering your burdens? Let’s reflect together in the comments. 💛

Graduate Lecture-Recital Recap Series: Buried Chronicles Movement I – Homesick Xcuses

Welcome to the sixth installment of my Graduate Lecture-Recital Recap Series! Today, we begin exploring Buried Chronicles with its first movement: Homesick Xcuses.

This movement is rooted in the verse Psalm 23:3:
“He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.”

Growing up, I was often called an “old soul,” but maturing too quickly came with a cost. Speeding through life without taking time to reflect on lessons learned or accomplishments achieved left me feeling lost and empty inside. Yet, even in that emptiness, His grace proved sufficient.

Homesick Xcuses is a heartfelt prayer to YAH—a longing to be with Him, no matter the path it takes to get there. The entire piece is improvised over a melody gifted to me through the phrase, “I want to go home,” and is played in F Major for solo piano.

This movement is an intimate expression of the human desire for connection with the Divine, even amidst confusion and haste. It’s a reminder that no matter how lost we may feel, YAH’s love and guidance are always present, restoring us and leading us toward righteousness.

Stay tuned for the next movement, and thank you for walking this journey with me. I pray that Homesick Xcuses speaks to your heart as it did mine.

Have you ever found yourself longing for restoration and peace? Let’s reflect in the comments.

Graduate Lecture-Recital Recap Series: Buried Chronicles

Welcome to the fifth and the beginning of the end to my Graduate Lecture-Recital Recap Series! These last posts highlight the heart of the recital itself, Buried Chronicles, a deeply personal work that reflects my journey with Christ and my battle with depression.

Split into three movements, Buried Chronicles tells a story of struggle, faith, and ultimate triumph. Each movement grows in instrumentation, symbolizing how YAH has continually augmented my life as I walk with Him.

This progression mirrors my path from darkness to light—a return to a place of rejoicing and, eventually…dancing.

Stay tuned as I share each performance along with their descriptions, breaking down the message and musical elements behind every movement. My hope is that Buried Chronicles resonates with you and serves as a reminder that even in our darkest moments, there is hope, healing, and joy waiting to be rediscovered.

Thank you for joining me on this journey through my Graduate Lecture-Recital Recap Series. Sharing my music and their stories has been a labor of love, and I pray they’ve inspired you as much as they’ve transformed me.

Have you ever found solace or strength in music during difficult times? Let’s talk about it in the comments.

🎶 Glorious Fugue - Live Performance 🎺

Here it is—the live performance of Glorious Fugue, a reimagined rendition of my very first composition, Latin Fugue. Rooted in classical guitar and inspired by the “King of Fugue,” Johann Sebastian Bach, this piece has been transformed into a 4-voice fugue, performed by members of the Norfolk State University Spartan Legion Marching Band and conducted by my brother, @mr.hop3_ .

This adventurous composition is dedicated to my parents and their glorious journey with Christ, as well as my own walk of faith in following their example. With a vibrant Latin influence inspired by my upbringing in Florida, this piece weaves together tradition, culture, and purpose.

I’m so proud of this collaboration and grateful to all who brought it to life. Let me know your thoughts in the comments, and enjoy the journey that is Glorious Fugue!
