Blessed and honored to present at the 2026 Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference of the College Music Society!

Being in a space with so many brilliant educators, scholars, and creatives reminded me how important it is to keep pushing the conversation forward in music education. I had the opportunity to present my paper on modern music education and explore new ways we can connect traditional pedagogy with contemporary musical practices.

The discussions, feedback, and ideas shared throughout the conference were incredibly inspiring, and I’m excited to continue building on this work.

Thank you to the CMS committee for allowing me to present and a special S/O to @annieneikirk who’s continuous support to her students make opportunities like this possible!

Flashback Friday: CIAA 2026 was truly an unforgettable experience!

I was able to perform Lift Every Voice and Sing and have my own halftime show!

While unforeseen circumstances prevented our students from performing this year, we were still honored to be present and represented through the incredible artistry of @l.stringz, who stepped in and delivered a powerful performance on our behalf.

Moments like these remind us that the mission goes beyond the stage—it’s about creating and ceasing opportunities and continuing to create spaces where community and culture intersect. Special S/O to Ms. Candace and Rocky of MC3 Sports for believing in us and providing us with the opportunity. We’re grateful to have been part of such an amazing event and look forward to even more opportunities to uplift and showcase the next generation of musicians.

All praise to The Most High for establishing our steps and thank you to everyone who supported and made this experience meaningful.

Blessed and honored to be a part of the CIAA 2026 Tournament for not one, but two halftime performances on Tuesday! First conducting the Saint Joseph Catholic Church Youth Choir and the second performing solo!

Graduate Lecture-Recital Recap Series: Buried Chronicles

Welcome to the fifth and the beginning of the end to my Graduate Lecture-Recital Recap Series! These last posts highlight the heart of the recital itself, Buried Chronicles, a deeply personal work that reflects my journey with Christ and my battle with depression.

Split into three movements, Buried Chronicles tells a story of struggle, faith, and ultimate triumph. Each movement grows in instrumentation, symbolizing how YAH has continually augmented my life as I walk with Him.

This progression mirrors my path from darkness to light—a return to a place of rejoicing and, eventually…dancing.

Stay tuned as I share each performance along with their descriptions, breaking down the message and musical elements behind every movement. My hope is that Buried Chronicles resonates with you and serves as a reminder that even in our darkest moments, there is hope, healing, and joy waiting to be rediscovered.

Graduate Lecture-Recital Recap Series: Born to SOAR

Welcome to the second post in my Graduate Lecture-Recital Recap Series! I will now reflect on Born 2 SOAR, a piece that holds a special place in my heart.

Inspired by Linda Spevacek’s Leave No Song Unsung and the unwavering encouragement of my high school choral director, Dr. Martha Springstead, Born to SOAR was created as a school tradition song in June 2022. I had the privilege of composing this piece with my students at Rosemont Elementary School in Virginia Beach, VA.

The song’s message draws from the powerful truth of Genesis 1:26:
“Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’”

With these words in mind, Born to SOAR was designed to be timeless—a message that would grow with the students as they navigate life’s journey. It’s a reminder of their God-given potential to rise above challenges, to lead with purpose, and to soar beyond the highest heights.

This performance of Born to SOAR was by the graduating Kindergarten and 5th Grade classes of 2023. Seeing these students come together to sing this anthem of empowerment and possibility was an unforgettable moment. Their voices carried the message of the song with strength and hope, leaving an impact that will resonate for years to come.

My goal was to leave them with more than just a melody; I wanted to give them an anthem of empowerment. A song that would resonate in their hearts, reminding them that they were created to dream, achieve, and have dominion over their destinies.

Graduate Lecture-Recital Recap Series: Psalm 19

Welcome to the first installment of my Graduate Lecture-Recital Recap Series! Today, I’ll be sharing insights into Psalm 19, my first electronic acoustic composition. This piece is deeply personal, representing both a transformative creative journey and a spiritual connection with YAH.

I wanted Psalm 19 to evoke the profound truths of the psalm in a way that resonates emotionally and spiritually. After much experimentation, I discovered a sound world that could express this vision. At the heart of the piece is a recitation of Psalm 19 by Abraham Shmuelof from the Academy of Ancient Languages, paired with carefully chosen environmental sounds to depict the human experience as ordained since creation.

The journey begins with sounds representing creation itself, evolving into an auditory narrative of mankind’s spiritual walk—both collectively and individually. It explores themes of choosing His “wise” and “perfect law” (Psalm 19:8), being protected from hidden and willful sins (Psalm 19:13–14), and finding peace through redemption from The Rock.

To bring this vision to life, I utilized various sampled sounds:
•Voice (my own voice recordings)
•Rain Showers
•Storms Over Seas
•Campfire/Raging Fire
•Highway Traffic (Panning & Doppler effects)
•Neighborhood Birds

Through techniques like splicing, merging, automating, and adjusting the region gain of these samples, I aimed to create a soundscape that feels immersive and spiritually evocative.
This piece isn’t just music—it’s a reflection of my journey and faith. I hope Psalm 19 inspires listeners to contemplate creation, spirituality, and the redemptive power of walking in His law.
