🎤🤝👟 PASS THE MIC: Codes, Cultures & Ways of Being // Thur. 10/8 @ 7pm 👟🤝🎤 -A Community Town Hall- Every groove, every style, and every rule we follow in the circle was handed to us by somebody who carried it before we got here. As our scenes grow and our eyes turn toward the present and the future, it's worth pausing together to talk about where each of our cultures comes from and the principles that made us who we are. Those principles are more than history. They are ways of being, and when we understand them, they keep us aligned with our own traditions, with each other, and with the people who opened the door for us. Pass the Mic brings crew leaders and members from across the DMV's many dance communities into that conversation. This isn't a battle and it isn't a showcase. It's a real dialogue about history, community, respect, and identity, where each culture can speak for itself, and where we can talk honestly about what's been passed down, what's being challenged, and what's being reinvented. 📆 Thur. 10/8 @ 7-10 pm 🎤 Moderator: Junious Brickhouse (Assassins Crew) 👤 Panelists: Booda Monk (LBX [Lead By Xample]) Brent Talley (Natural Elements Crew) Ron Wheeler (Warpath Breakers Crew) Russell Campbell (CAB Crew, Assassins Crew) 📍Urban Artistry Dance Academy: 11301 Georgia Ave.- 2nd Fl. (entrance on Price Ave.) @urbanartistrydc @wheaton_md 🖥 In-person and Zoom option - link in bio! 🎟 Free; Suggested donation $10 @soulsocietyfest: October 3-11th! - Workshops, Panels, Battles, and more! Next up we have @djalicoleman blessing the @elements_of_house_ decks. Ali Coleman is a New York City–based DJ, producer, and cultural organizer whose relationship with DJ culture began in 1979, emerging from early disco, block parties, and club spaces that centered music as a tool for release and connection. That lineage continues to inform his intuitive, people-centered approach today. As a DJ and producer, Ali’s sound draws from deep, soulful, Afro-influenced, and globally inspired house music, blending classic foundations with forward-facing selections. His work spans clubs, festivals, cultural institutions, and public spaces, adapting seamlessly across contexts while maintaining musical integrity. Ali brings both underground credibility and seasoned professionalism to every room—whether he’s warming up a floor, taking it peak-time, or closing with intention. Ali Coleman’s work centers music, dance, and nightlife as essential cultural practices that foster connection, well-being, and intergenerational exchange. With over three decades of professional experience, Ali bridges underground house music culture with community-based programming, nightlife advocacy, and youth education. Rooted in a dancer-first philosophy, his practice treats the dance floor not only as a site of entertainment, but as a vital cultural space — one that supports equity, creative expression, and collective care. NOTE THE DATE CHANGE AS WE WILL HOST THIS PARTY OCTOBER 24th!!! Adjust your calendar and plan accordingly. Meet us on the dance floor. 🪩 💃🏾 🕺🏾 @urbanartistrydc we dance again on the 24th!!!
