We rescued Nena and her six precious puppies — Alfalfa, Cedar, Iris, Tulip, Daffodil, and Aster — from the Devore shelter in California, hoping to give them the life they deserved. We had no idea we were about to face one of the hardest battles we’ve ever fought. 💔

The very first day, they were cleared by the vet to head to their foster while waiting for transport. But by the next day, everything changed. Every puppy became sick with vomiting and severe diarrhea. They were rushed back to the vet where they were started on antibiotics, probiotics, and tested. Stool samples came back positive for giardia.

Then our sweet boy Aster became lethargic and dangerously dehydrated. We hospitalized him for 3 days, fighting to save him. During that time, little Alfalfa began having seizures. We had no choice but to let him go peacefully. We ran a PCR panel…

Distemper positive.
Our absolute worst nightmare. 😩

We doubled down on care. Around-the-clock meds. Fluids. Vomit and diarrhea management. Daily subcutaneous fluids from our incredible friend. Their foster mom loved them like her own and never left their side. They were eating. They were still trying to play.

But then Iris and Tulip began spending most of their days nodding and bobbling their heads. Our vet confirmed what we feared — neurological signs that distemper had reached their brains. They weren’t getting better. They were suffering.

Today, with shattered hearts, we made the impossible decision to let Iris and Tulip cross the rainbow bridge to be with their brother Alfalfa. 🌈🐾

This virus is cruel. It steals puppies who deserved so much more. Distemper picks who it wants, and no dog should ever have to experience this kind of suffering.

Please, please keep our remaining babies — Cedar, Daffodil, and Aster — in your prayers. We are fighting with everything we have for them. 🙏❤️
And please send some extra love to their incredible foster moms Victoria and tee! who gave these babies 24-hour care, loved them like they were their own, and never stopped fighting for them.

Fly high, Alfalfa, Iris, and Tulip. We are so sorry we couldn’t save you. 💔🌈🐾

🚨 SHE WENT INTO SHOCK… ALONE 🚨

We had already left California… heading back to Florida…
trying to catch our breath…

And then we saw Nena.

On the URGENT list.
But not with her babies…

The shelter had weaned them and taken them away.
Her puppies were placed in a separate kennel…

And Nena?

Alone. Shaking. Completely shut down.
💔 She went into shock.

A mom who lost everything… sitting there with no comfort, no babies, no understanding why.

We knew we couldn’t leave her.

So we scrambled.
We made the calls. We begged. We worked it.

Our foster—who had just had a house full—said YES.
Our California transporter said YES and rushed them straight to the vet.
Our Florida transporter said YES.

And somehow…
everything aligned just in time.

💔 Elevated white blood cells
💔 Fighting mastitis
🙏 Puppies are Parvo negative
🙏 Possible parasites—we’ll know more tomorrow

But tonight…
she’s not alone anymore.
her babies are back with her.
they are SAFE.

✨ Thank you to everyone who shared and pledged
✨ Thank you to our incredible supporters
✨ Victoria for fostering this family
✨ Tee for spending the entire day getting them vetted

This is rescue. This is why we don’t stop.

🐾 NENA AND HER BABIES ARE SAVED. 🐾

$Two trips to California, nine dogs saved.❤️🙏🏽 we didn’t even put a dent in the amount of dogs that are at the shelters getting euthanized every minute, every hour, every day. California being one of the highest kill shelters. Leaving knowing that we can’t fit anymore on our transport or in our home hurts. But one thing for sure we will be back!! Our rescue pulls. 1.) pebbles and Bam Bam are two 11 week old shepherds pulled from Bakerfield shelter.(both adopted) 2.) Maggie ended up on the euthanasia list after we already left. We were watching her family before they even got blasted for rescue. We turned around for this family. (Sheepdog Shepard) Pulled from Devore on her way to EIO 3.) Lucy is Maggie’s sister (sheepdog Shepard mix) . Pulled from Devore on her way to EIO 4.) Ellie is the momma of Maggie and Lucy. She’s 100% sheepdog. Pulled from Devore on her way to EIO 5.) Sebastian is our two-year-old Chihuahua who we saved just hours before euthanasia. He has a compound fracture and will need serious surgery, but he will have a full recovery as soon as he makes his trip to EIO. Pulled from Bakersfield. 6.) Maria was posted by @dogs_need_voice @iloverescue where we rescued her and @annadamergis fostered her for us until she was adopted all the way up in Seattle . 7.) Barry was posted by @iloverescue . He was the main reason we brought our transport to California. He was fostered by Victoria and transported by @thatsitla . He did get adopted in California ❤️ 8.) Chips Ahoy was also posted by @iloverescue . @annadamergis fostered her for us and found her an amazing home in Cali ❤️🥹 9.) Mabel is just a puppy who was also pulled from the Euthanasia list at Bakersfield with a fracture rear leg. She is on her way to EIO . (Short Shepard mix ) Our transport cost is high, the vet and medical bills are up there. Not to even mention the fact that Sebastian has a go fund me out there for him right now. (Please share) If you appreciate small rescues, if you appreciate the amount of work, Brittany, the fosters and the transporters did to save these dogs. Every dollar counts.. every share matters. We can rebuild our rescue account and go back for more.$
