大 IN THE WILD: guess my sport 🌸💪🏻

asked a hong kong woman at a flower stand to guess what sport i play, then told her about what 大 means to me!! ☺️

many chinese women grow up being told they are “太大了 “too big” and for me, it was my legs, shoulders and muscles… so i put 大 on a shirt 🤷🏻‍♀️

taking up space, being big, strong & healthy is beautiful, and its my mission to have as many of these conversations as possible with women (&men) across hong kong. so follow along! 🇭🇰

“The 大 Collection”

Can’t believe it’s been 2 years since launching this passion project (in collab with @amtattoo_art) .. and somehow we’re still going with this t-shirt!! 🤩

大 means “big” in Chinese. As a Chinese-German rugby player growing up in Shanghai, I’ve always been told that my legs or arms were “太大了” “too big” so when I launched this project, it was to flip the narrative on what it means to be strong and 大, not just physically but having a 大 voice and 大 dreams 💪🏻

So many women & men around the world have resonated with feeling “too much” in some way and supported this project over the last few years, which I’m extremely grateful for! ❤️

We are restocking sizes in all original colors next week (blue, beige and green) on our website thedacollection.com (link in bio!) and… launching this new lavender color too!! 😍

Sofie Fella was told her body was too big for ballet. It turned out to be exactly right for rugby, and for Germany’s national team. Angela Wong and William Lo have spent six years teaching Hong Kong girls the same lesson through basketball.

I grew up not loving my body because I wasn’t the “typical” petite Asian. I’m 49 and I still can’t look at myself in the mirror because all I see are flaws. So this shirt from @the.da.collection and what it stands for means a lot to me. This shirt is so beautifully designed I just want to wear it everyday. 😊 Thanks for the reminder @sofie.fella that big IS beautiful and that beauty and femininity comes in all shapes, sizes, colours and chosen genders.

yes, it hit a nerve for a lot of female athletes cuz it IS that deep as @gracie.kramer said

women in sport have the power to be such role models for young girls & women because in a world so focused on aesthetics, many of us have finally figured out how to see our bodies as tools and appreciate them for all they are capable of. what they can do > the way they look.

i just want to see more money being put into ads talking about celebrating women’s strength and all that we’re capable of 💪🏻

instead of whatever crap that was
