๐ŸงฎJude Sweetwine & Noah Sweetwine. Twins bound by adoration, revulsion and distrust. Their lives turn upside down when misfortune pops up with its magic wand. When the ardour of art clatters with the naivety of adolescence, jealousy finds its way into the heart of these characters, as they simultaneously renovate themselves and the story itself. The dream-like happenings of the novel arrest the discrete alleyways of these characters who are unaware of the contiguous enigmas.โฃ
โฃ
๐ŸชThe plot of the novel is ambitious, but the execution of it, is fundamentally flawed. The first person narrative gives the readers an unblemished view of the charactersโ€™ psyche. But it is so clear that there is no room left for nuanced storytelling. Because of that Jandy Nelsonโ€™s way of manufacturing characters comes across as caricaturish. The other characters like Dianna, Benjamin, Grandma, Guillermo, Oscar & Brian, are at times vaguely bearable but mostly so over the top. The author does recognize the cringe she is fabricating here and at times even mentions it in the narrative.โฃ
โฃ
๐ŸงฎYA books are crafted in a certain way that should mirror the oxymoronic teenage troubles, and this book does that, but mostly overdoes it. It emphasises everything so strongly that it almost dictates the way a reader should feel. Incalculable mysteries, self-contradictory conducts, synthetically plaited art teฬ‚te-aฬ€-teฬ‚tes, struggles of accepting oneโ€™s own sexuality & the unceasing company of the psychosomatic supernatural, make it just too hard to digest. Because of these hammering defects, even the elegantly woven language of the novel starts to feel like an artificial construct that is trying to save a sinking ship.โฃ
โฃ
๐ŸชI wish expecting the undoing of predictable YA tropes (like Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe), but this book does the exact opposite of that. A good YA fiction gives everything to its readers without being resoundingly idealistic. Give it a read if you are a lover of excess, otherwise, give it a skip.โฃ

๐Ÿฅ Meet Me In Memes ๐Ÿฅ

Are you one of those people who hardly takes screenshots once in a blue moon and doesn't have to scroll back far when
they want to find something?

Or... are you like me, with 40+ folders all labelled with different names and with thousands of photos sorted
into them? ๐Ÿ˜‚

I save things that make me laugh, feel good or that inspire me - and then I move them all into categorised folders on my PC.
How often do I look back through them? Haha, probably once every 6 months or so. BUT, when I do want to find a specific meme or screenshot... it's there! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Anyways, I decided to make my own memes for the #meetmeinmemes challenge.
Yes you heard it right!
Here we go.

For context :

1 - Me
2 - We all know there's no such thing as "too many" books! ๐Ÿ˜Œ
3 - People who watch scary movies for fun and sleep fine after are psychos. I am people! ๐Ÿ˜‚
4 - Y'all know Shawn is the Love of My Life ๐Ÿ’˜
5 - I hate chocolates to no end ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜‚
6 - The Hoarder in me >>>>> The Reader in Me ๐Ÿ˜‚
7 - My Moto for life ๐Ÿ˜‚๐ŸŽ
8 - I feel pathetic when my favourite anime character dies and I cry a river ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿคง One died just yesterday ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿ˜ข
9 - Trust me, I do it every SINGLE time ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ˜‚
10 - HTML is NOT a programming language! End.Of.Discussion ๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿ˜‚

Let me know which ones you could relate to (if at all, lol) ๐Ÿคญ
Aaand a second part is coming up pretty soon! I'm so excited already ๐Ÿ˜‚

Also, 85% of the memes are made my myself and for the rest I have tagged the creators to the best of my knowledge - Credits to respective creators.

I've tagged a few friends to do this trend and everyone else, please consider yourselves tagged!
[Thanks Tanvi Di @tanvisreadventures for the indirect tag ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’•]

Hello everybody ,

Many many moons ago , dearest Rupsa @rupsareads tagged me for an amazing tag she started #3continents3sagas . And here goes my picks for the tag :

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ A suitable Boy
A quintessential Indian family saga. The book with which I started my love for thick books and the copy with which I started my Bookstagram account . This thick huge saga (~1400) pages is everything what India is. Itโ€™s a story of a mom trying to find โ€œ A suitable boyโ€ for her daughter . And at the backdrop is a plethora of some many other elements at play , politics , caste, religion, festivals , relationships , love interests and the huge range of vivid characters. Highly recommended with a note that BBC adaptation is not the right representation of this amazing piece of art

๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ตPachinko
A multigenerational family saga of 4 generations who moved from Korea to Japan . This one gives a glimpse of political relations between the countries during world war and beyond. The story with a strong undercurrent of racism and prejudices , showcases the effects of political instability on lives of simple people with simple dreams

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆHomegoing
Although being a relatively short book in the genre, this is a rich dense and a powerful story . Through the story of two half sisters, the book represents a wonderful and heartbreaking history of Africa from its natives , from colonial times to slave trade to the life of discrimination and effects of this past on newer and younger generations. I really enjoyed this book and is a must read .

What is your favourite saga ? Any of these on your favourite lists ?

Tagging some of you to take up the challenge and also to let me know how are you doing โค๏ธ

Why I switched to Sustainable Reading?
โ™ป๏ธ
As a writer, I get to work on a lot of different types of projectsโ€”copies for ads, content for travel, hospitality, and lifestyle industry, book reviews etc.
โ™ป๏ธ
Recently, a friend of mine started a Sustainability Consultancy Company called @carbon_mandal (check out the page to know more)and he roped me in to work on it. I was excited to work on this project, and as I read, did my research to create the website content, I was surprised to know that misconceived green initiatives can do more harm than good. I was also pleased to learn that collective baby steps by humans can bring tremendous change to our ecosystem.
โ™ป๏ธ
One such step is sustainable reading habits. Books, unfortunately, are not exempt from copious amounts of consumption and waste.
โ™ป๏ธ
An introspect made me realise the growing stacks of books I owned- numerous unread/one time read books. Books brought on an impulse or #bookstagrammademebuyit books
โ™ป๏ธ
I realised that we are encouraging a culture of book hoarding for fashion. We are promoting a trend of not sharing books. We boast about using recycled, environmentally friendly products but fail to see the irony every time we order stacks of just-going-to-be-read-once-books or stuff we don't really need that ends ups in the trash and eventually landfills.
โ™ป๏ธ
As a hoarder of books, a staunch supporter of books over ebooks, the choice to shift to e-readers was tough. But, I am glad I made it, along with my promise to buy books only when I truly needed them, to purchase second-hand books, and to engage in #bookswap whenever possible.
โ™ป๏ธ
P.S. My wonderful husband gifted me this kindle for our 2nd anniversaryโค๏ธ
