Sometimes the hotel is the reason to fly across the world. We gathered 10 where the place itself is the point: mirrored orbs over the Red Sea, rooms built into rock, a suite inside a harbour crane, a bedroom under the sea. For the trips where you pick the place first.
Which one stopped you? DM us.

Where you stay in New Zealand shapes so much of the trip, from what you do each day to how you feel coming back in the evening. These four lodges each give you a completely different experience.

The farm stay | Cabot Lodge, Fiordland
A working farm at the gateway to Fiordland, with only a handful of guests and real southern hospitality. Cross Lake Manapōuri for a day out on Doubtful Sound, then spend time on the farm itself before the hot tub looking out over the lake and a dinner made with the farm’s own produce.

The lakefront lodge | Lakestone Lodge, Lake Pūkaki
Just six rooms, looking across Lake Pūkaki to Aoraki Mount Cook. Take a heli hike onto the Tasman Glacier, walk the Hooker Valley Track or explore the region by e-bike, then come back to a three-course dinner and a deep soaking bath under the Mackenzie night sky.

The remote pod stay | The Lindis, Ahuriri Valley
Deep in the Ahuriri Valley, with two MICHELIN Keys and just three architect-designed Pods, each with glass walls looking straight out across the valley to the mountains and an outdoor tub on its own private deck. Hike or e-bike from the lodge, go horse trekking or head out for a remote picnic, then come back to beautifully prepared seasonal New Zealand cuisine.

The riverside icon | Huka Lodge, Taupō
One of New Zealand’s most celebrated lodges, set in private gardens on the banks of the Waikato River since 1924, and holding two MICHELIN Keys. Walk the river to Huka Falls, spend a morning fly fishing with a guide, then pre-dinner drinks and dinner overlooking the river.

And you don’t have to choose just one. Bring two or three into your New Zealand journey, and each stay shows you another side of the country.

Save this for your New Zealand planning.

I’m Chris, a New Zealand-based luxury travel advisor with Binge on Travel, matching each stay to how you wish to experience New Zealand.

@the.lindis may just be the most unforgettable place I’ve ever stayed. Here’s why..

It’s a luxury lodge folded into the landscape. Bentleys decorate the driveway and Barbour boots line the entry hall.

This was our view from bed. Sunrise painting the peaks and the sound of geese settling on the Ahuriri River.

The bed ☁️

Dream.

Every meal is a masterpiece. What I didn’t expect was how personalised and thoughtful it would be. My sister doesn’t like seafood and every single service she was handed her own menu.

Our visit coincided with The Creators Series with the spotlight on Louis Roederer for a champagne masterclass - classroom was a little distracting 🏔️
If they do this again next year, don’t miss it.

Local salmon for lunch.

Our ride to our ride - doing dirt roads in style.

The private stable - and the reason why @the.lindis has been on my bucket list for so long.

Horse girls will get it.

😮‍💨

The best way to explore spectacular scenery.

In love.

@the.lindis, a member of the Modern Luxury Collective.

A lodge set within 6,500 acres of Ben Avon Station in the high country. Located in New Zealand's Ahuriri Valley, The Lindis Lodge sits almost imperceptibly in the landscape, bringing together striking architecture, genuine hospitality, contemporary New Zealand cuisine and immersive experiences shaped by the high country.

Two Master Suites and three Lodge Suites sit within the main lodge, plus three architecturally designed glass Pods with complete privacy. A sweeping form follows the natural contours of the land, with floor-to-ceiling views of the valley.

In The Great Hall, contemporary New Zealand cuisine is guided by the seasons, with locally sourced and garden-grown ingredients. Or dine in a private hut tucked into the surrounding high country, with High Country Caviar & Champagne.

Enjoy world-class fly fishing, horse trekking from the lodge's on-site stables, and guided stargazing on the edge of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, beneath some of New Zealand's clearest night skies.

The lodge becomes part of the landscape itself, defined by genuine Kiwi hospitality and a deep connection to place.
