THRIVERS: rant time (long overdue)

As a tween healthcare professional, who loves research (currently in graduate school), a digital health content creator and member of @who.fides ; healthcare charlatans disgust me.

I love watching house construction and electrical installations videos. I will never claim to be a civil engineer or license electrician. Y’all make it make sense.

Now, to individuals who have science or medical -related background; y’all stay in your lane. Why the heck are you coming online to say things that do not match with your self acclaimed credentials. I am always glad when y’all shoot yourselves in the foot. Good job contradicting yourselves.

Let me enlighten you with my credentials.
I am a mental health nutritionist. I have a BSc in Biochemistry, MSc in Dietetics and Nutrition, Certified Mental Health First Aider. With my DN background, I educate individuals and communities on the relationship between nutrition and mental well-being, provide evidence-based guidance for healthy eating and lifestyle, and offer supportive strategies to promote resilience and self-care.

As a MHFA, I am trained to approach and assess situations where there may be a risk of harm or suicide, to listen non-judgmentally, give reassurance and information, and encourage appropriate professional help or self-help strategies.

Within my scope, I can consult, advise, advocate, organize, recommend general nutrition practices and supportive mental health actions. I also refer individuals to licensed dietitians, therapists, or medical professionals for specialized care.

Beyond my scope of expertise, I do not diagnose or treat mental health conditions, provide psychotherapy or counseling, prescribe diets for medical conditions, or offer medical nutrition therapy reserved for registered dietitians. My role is to educate, support, and empower, while ensuring that individuals access the professional care they may need while also breaking the culture of silence around trauma in African homes.

How hard can this be ?

THRIVERS: Happy new week. In Episode 4 we’re talking about something deadly; fake drugs and unregulated health products. Listen, the fear of fake drugs in Nigeria is the beginning of wisdom.

I have to give NAFDAC their flowers because they have been doing a lot. They’ve seized trillions worth of fake and unregistered drugs, and even intercepted medications that had already been banned in other countries.

What breaks my heart is we’ve become a dumping ground for products no other country will accept. People are selling and buying them freely. No control, or strict regulation Just danger.

On top of that, fake wellness products are everywhere from spas injecting weight loss cocktails to make shift pharmacies stocking unverified supplements that damage the liver and kidneys.

So please don’t self-medicate, only buy from trusted, recommended pharmacies, don’t buy injections from salons or DMs and use the NAFDAC Green Book, a free website where you can check if a drug or supplement is registered, when it expires, and if it’s safe to use.

There are over 6,000+ products listed. Use the link in my bio to access all the resources for this series including the green book. Remember to be alert at all times. Stay nourished, Keep thriving and prioritize your mental health. 💚💚💚

THRIVERS: Wisdom is profitable to direct but you also have to carry your faith to the hospital. In Nigeria, we’ve normalized a mindset that delays care: Hospitals are too expensive. What if they diagnose me with something serious? Let me just manage it on my own.

But we must remember, it was God who gave people the wisdom for modern medicine. Prayer works but so do blood pressure monitors, labs, and trained professionals.

This series is hard for me to create. Reading article after article about our healthcare system is heartbreaking. It’s heavy but I can’t leave this work halfway. Because completing this series isn’t just about content it’s about truth-telling.

I always say: resilience keeps you going, but capacity is what helps you navigate; left, right, up, or down until you get to your destination.

So please:
If something doesn’t feel right in your body go to the hospital. Don’t let fear, cost, or confusion turn you into a statistic. It is well with Nigeria and I pray we get to a time when this series becomes history because we finally have a healthcare system that works.

Stay nourished. Keep thriving. Prioritize your mental health.

THRIVERS: honest apologizes that this episode is coming a bit late; it was due to some logistics. But honestly, maybe the delay gave me time to really feel this one.

While preparing for this episode on underfunding in Nigeria’s healthcare system, I found myself reading news articles, research papers, and firsthand commentaries from doctors, nurses, and other care professionals and my heart broke.

This system is tired. Our professionals are burned out, underpaid, and overworked. People are grieving in silence and as I read, I could feel their pain in every sentence, in every statistic.

What hurts most is knowing that the same leaders who starve our health system fly abroad to get care only to sometimes die there, while our own hospitals rot at home.

I was two years old when the Abuja declaration was promise. Now I’m 26. The promises are still on paper. The people are still waiting. This episode is heavy. It broke me and I hope it breaks the silence too.

See you in Episode 3.

“So peace is on me the day I was born, the day that I die, and the day that I shall be raised up to life (again).”-Q19:33

Stepping into this new age I want nothing more than to live fully by my name "Mogbekeloluwa", which translates to “I put all my trust in God.” Because He is Al-Wakeel- The Ultimate Trustee, The One who is sufficient for whoever relies on Him.

This year, I surrender my affairs and walk boldly into a chapter of soft wins, divine alignment, inner peace, and love that flows endlessly. ✨

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MORENIKEJI AMOPE!!! 💜
Here’s to trusting, resting, and blooming in His perfect plan 🥂.
