The PHL Runway 5k is always super fun! With planes taking off alongside as you blast down the next runway over.
🏃🏻‍♂️✈️
We had amazing weather but the back half we were racing into the wind.
It was great to race, chase and place with these two gents again this year. Happy with 2nd overall, 1st in age div and 17:58.
Now, a hilly 5k race up next tomorrow…
👊🏻😊

This Morning we did something we have both been working towards for over 4 years.

We crossed a finish line together. Well you all may say we have crossed 100s together. However, today was different. Each of us giving our all to hold speeds, not stop and honor each other with our efforts!

6.2 Miles through South Philly at a 10:20pace! We are happy and proud!!!

Shout out to the @the.runningacademy for getting me started towards my finish goal in January. Also great job to @jim_turley_88 & @leo.j.russo (who saved a little too much at the end for his kick to the finish line…never fear I made him work for it!)

Thank you South Philly for another great race! #philly10k #wesexy #werunthistown #brunch #therunningacademy

Throwback Thursday to a marathon PR at a World Major, @berlinmarathon 2022, back in the olden days, when there were only six.

I miss that version of me — the speed, the chase, the ceiling I was always motivated and energized to be pushing toward and trying to break through.

Medical stuff means I can’t run like that anymore, and aging at 56 doesn’t make it easier. I’m cool with that. It just… is. I get it. I’m still running, still grateful, still pacing others and chasing whatever goals make sense now. Every now and then, like today, I feel a little… sad or maybe it’s melancholy, but whatever it is, I do miss that I can’t be “that” runner anymore.

But this isn’t defeat or pity — just acknowledging the shift. I see others doing what I used to, and I’m inspired every time. I’m still out here, still moving forward, still doing the thing. And grateful to be able to do it.

So, we keep doing it.

@cnaimoli and I apparently have zero photos together so I made one to show how much fun I’ve had working with him over the last 9 months.

I’m venturing into the world of self-coaching because my final months of internship coming up have me making very little money and big girl life decisions have to be made. Hey, it’s reality. 🤷‍♀️ Chris has been beyond generous and fair with his time and knowledge, and I’m grateful he took me under his wing. It’s super scary, but working with @the.runningacademy (Chris) has turned me into a much more confident athlete who is excited for new challenges.

When I left my previous coaching last year, he came to me with a proposal: let’s work together in a way that works for both of us. He introduced me to new ways of training while we worked in a truly collaborative way on my goals. I’m frustrated that I didn’t show what I know I’m capable of this weekend, but in seeing my growth over the last few months: it’s coming. 💯

He took in an athlete who was a bit of a head case and felt that she didn’t know what was best for her. I left as an athlete who advocated for myself with confidence. I felt empowered to dictate my taper after I hurt my ankle stepping weird on a long run and could barely walk without pain just a week before Brazil (surprise reveal lol). Far fewer tears were shed this build which is my favorite stat to share. 🫡😅

Anyways, all this to say, thank you @cnaimoli @the.runningacademy . I recommend working with him to anyone. It makes sense to take the reins now especially as I shift a bit more into bike racing over the next month, but I feel quite confident this isn’t the last I’ll work with Chris or come to him for guidance.

It’s been a weird year, but I’m grateful Chris was the friend who came through to be a part of it. See ya in August in Portland 😜

Ironman Arizona 🌵 Hard to ask for much more from a season when every race has resulted in PRs. It’s not something I take for granted, especially at this distance.

This year’s constant theme was evaluating what I wanted out of my life and how triathlon fit in it. I’m a graduate student, I have a job outside of triathlon, and I have an amazing community around me with relationships that I want to show up for. I want it all, at the best of MY ability — which looks different for every person — and I had to figure out what that like.

Right before Sweden, I stepped away from being coached which felt like a pretty insane decision at the time. I got incredibly lucky when @cnaimoli @the.runningacademy offered some of his guidance and a new collaborative coaching opportunity.

So many things challenged me on Sunday, and crossing that finish line was something I genuinely feared I wouldn’t do in the first miles of the marathon after tripping coming out of T2 (SUCH a Megan move oh my gosh 🤦‍♀️). Through a combination of consistent work, years of experience, and a bit of luck, I was still able to wrap up my rookie pro year with a 9:27 PR, P16, and a 3:24 marathon PR despite my foot demanding that I walk the uphills on the last loop. Hey, that’s pretty cool!

What a joy it is to be able to compete at this level in this sport and have so many goals left to chase in life as well. Thank you @cnaimoli for taking a chance and helping me balance being an athlete with all of the other parts of me that make me me.

Before the Broomall Firecracker 5k and after.

Perfect morning for racing! Low humidity but at a 9:30am start, it got sun hot real fast! This course was a challenging one but I feel good about how I paced it. Could not catch the 17 year old in 1st place in the last half mile but I’m happy with 2nd overall and seeing how the recent speed work is finally paying off. I need a race in these conditions on a flat course soon! Great to see @mererunsamarathon who placed in her age division - congrats! And lovely to see many other local running friends. Thanks to @therunningplace for sponsoring this race and the cool prizes! Now, chill for the rest of the holiday.

Sunday 5k fun. Brilliant to pace/race with @beccabecca17 at a local race and have @chris.naimoli @the.runningacademy Ninjas come 1st and 2nd overall with just 1 second separating us! Such a fun race, even with the elevation in mile 2 (see slide 3) and random cars on the course. 18:30 isn’t the best time but it’s pretty ok given all the race logistics. It still felt good. And winning felt good. It felt good that I held/set pace up front in a field of much younger runners.
And, a $$ prize is always good, too.
🏃🏻‍♂️
Yes, it’s just a 5k. Let’s hear it for the 55+ athletes! We still got it.
