Ironman Arizona 🌵 Hard to ask for much more from a season when every race has resulted in PRs. It’s not something I take for granted, especially at this distance.

This year’s constant theme was evaluating what I wanted out of my life and how triathlon fit in it. I’m a graduate student, I have a job outside of triathlon, and I have an amazing community around me with relationships that I want to show up for. I want it all, at the best of MY ability — which looks different for every person — and I had to figure out what that like.

Right before Sweden, I stepped away from being coached which felt like a pretty insane decision at the time. I got incredibly lucky when @cnaimoli @the.runningacademy offered some of his guidance and a new collaborative coaching opportunity.

So many things challenged me on Sunday, and crossing that finish line was something I genuinely feared I wouldn’t do in the first miles of the marathon after tripping coming out of T2 (SUCH a Megan move oh my gosh 🤦‍♀️). Through a combination of consistent work, years of experience, and a bit of luck, I was still able to wrap up my rookie pro year with a 9:27 PR, P16, and a 3:24 marathon PR despite my foot demanding that I walk the uphills on the last loop. Hey, that’s pretty cool!

What a joy it is to be able to compete at this level in this sport and have so many goals left to chase in life as well. Thank you @cnaimoli for taking a chance and helping me balance being an athlete with all of the other parts of me that make me me.

Athlete Spotlight: Ryan
——————
This Summer Ryan committed to a program that would help her get ready for the Fall Cross Country season. The goals were simple: 1st Team All Catholic, break 24:00 at Belmont. What she didn’t have in the cards was qualifying for States as an individual!!!
——————
Season Progression: 26:11 (17th), 25:38 (17th), 24:46 (9th)
Catholic League Champs: 24:10 (13th & 1st Team All Catholic
District 12 Champs: 23:56 (15th & Individual State Qualifier)

I don’t ever want to take kids away from their friends a program. What I do during the year is race consultant. I help explain workouts, suggest paces given by the coach and talk race strategy as well as review race results.

3:42:29 —> 3:09:48 & the text message “Go f*ck yourself”

Never have I ever been so happy to be cursed at. Nobody has tried harder over the last 3 years to make themselves better than Lauren. From her first marathon we trained for (3:23 at Philly in 2022) until now, all she wanted to do was break 20:00 for 5k and PR in the marathon while also qualifying for Boston (she ran in 2024 in the heat). After some injuries, she was ready to really get back to work.
———
When we started building for Wineglass, we focused on increasing volume and decreasing the amount of days we do intensity on. It was the perfect combination. Lauren focused on mechanics, adding some strength training, and it showed. She came to visit Maeve in August, and I commented afterwards how freaking fit she looked. During August and September, she proved me right time and time again. She text me right before the @tim.kerr.charities 7M & 5k race asking me to talk her out of racing the 5k. I told her to finally go break 20:00 because it will be the confidence booster we need to achieve what she wants to achieve in the marathon. She ran 19:33 (30s PR)

When it came to Wineglass, the goal was simple, “break 3:15”. I figured Lauren would run somewhere between 3:10-3:12 and I figured a tad under 3:11 would probably be the number. Lauren’s exacts words were “you let the wind out of my sails” when I said to not go for sub 3:10 and to stick to running 7:20’s. It turned out, that was her motivation the last 5 miles. Prove me wrong and prove to me that she was ready to break 3:10. I was never happier to be wrong than I was Sunday
