“… IN AWE OF THE DRIVE IN OTHERS”

Yes, it is soo true!! There are so many persons in God’s green earth that I find to be on the excruciatingly inspirational end of the spectrum. Their talents and the willpower they have to pursue their dreams sneaks up on me, more often than not and I’m reminded that the cream rises to the top.
Eventually.
Or from birth.
Or ‘cause of a particular passport.
Or it was God’s plan, all along.
Or people chose to assign them the messianic moniker of, “the chosen one.”
Or they simply paid to be noticed, by you and me and everyone we know.
Or they studied very, very, very hard and they know this industry very very well.
Or they worked and worked and worked at this one thing, till they were the sort of expert who could turn water into wine in their sleep.
Or they just connect with people profoundly, without artifice or fanfare.
Or they got a leg-up, via the derided dark art of blackmail.
Or they conned their way into a position of power, or influence.
Or they simply walked into the room and the role was theirs.
Perhaps, they woke up on the right side of the bed, and found they had gotten everything wrong for many a year, but not any more.
Or they had this dream that gave them a number to call, and they called it… Guess who was on the other line?
Or they were walking down the road and some hotshot who wanted to initially shag them, decided to help their dreams come true; in other words, play the long game.
Or some lady bought them a drink at the bar, and asked if they’d like to join her table of film execs.
Or the waiter came over to ask them for an autograph during a luncheon with a prospective producer, and that upended the question of low Social Media numbers.
Or they went to school with a famous actor’s son and would get invited to some cockouts, only to wander the corridors mesmerized by the Oscars and the BAFTAS on display.

This summer, I presented my new book "Medeas Töchter" in a church, my favorite café, live on TV and in my editorial. I sent lots of packages with hand signed copies out to people and got readers to write reviews. I got to share the stage with some incredible human beings.

It was lovely. I'm really grateful I got to publish it. It's a good book, I'm happy with the outcome.

Now, I'll be taking a little break. This year, I have already started self-employment by opening my own law firm, created two websites, begun working as a coach for neurodivergent people and undertaken a health journey with no end in sight.

I'm extremely grateful for how rich my life is, and I'm burnt out. Read "Medeas Töchter" while I recover to come back with new stories!

“THE SKY IS MY FAVOURITE CANVAS”

Whether working with other Artists, such as that perennial favourite SOFIE ENGSTRÖM VON ALTEN, on that cover artwork she created in 2015 for “A RECORD OF EXTRAORDINARY LIVES” anthology, or handling that business myself as attested by my book covers & posters, I sure loves the sky!!

One the other reasons I moved to Berlin was cause I could look up and see the sky in all its wonder, like in ZIM and therein, lay some of my wildest stories; already writ by my spirit in permanent ink, waiting for the physical form to commit them to paper.

The one I shall be reading tonight is as close to a near-perfect parable as I have ever written. You may not like it how I love it, or think much of it, it’s okay. To each their own. We like what we like.
I know I have a tempestuous ace, in this tale, and I owe it to the expression, “the Sky is the Limit!”

Something you write today, you may be reading it in 11 years’ time, utterly convinced you caught magic in a bottle, on the day of its premiere.
Then the audience hears it and Reality finally catches up to you!! Ha! Lord Have Mercy. Haha

Come give me a dose of reality, or thank me by taking one of my books home. Perfect for that day when it finally dawns on you, Ncube might have been onto something all along. I pray it comes to pass. So you can wave one of my books and say, “I called it!!”

Remember, @the.sober.sessions is at Herrfurthplatz 4, in Schillerkiez, Berlintown. Entry is donation: €10-20 EUR. No one will be denied joining for lack of funds.
It’s a cash bar from @keith.fem

Doors open at 7 PM.

PS: as always, if you like what I do and think you have the perfect stage or role for me, hmu.

Stay tuned for “THINGS I WON’T TELL YOU” when I perform @the.sober.sessions this Thursday.

🌸

firstly and most importantly, I tip my cowboy hat to all those people out there looking out for each other, irrespective of color / creed / religion / gender / sexuality, in this green & blue ball floating in Time & Space.
Prayer works, helps, almost always. I pray for those affected directly & indirectly by acts of destruction.
My sincerest condolences to every one dealing with loss.
My own Father came to me in a dream last night and gave me such a hard-time. It drove me to tears.
Then I woke up and I was like, he’s been gone 20 years. That wasn’t him.
& moreover, I can’t wait to see him again, so I can give this masquerader a piece of my mind.
Let’s not be governed by figments of our imagination. The real people are complicated and tenderer.

& Now, as advertised…

On Thursday, I won’t be able to introduce myself. I’ll go straight into telling the epic shortie.
To rectify that, I wanna share this:

I was baptized in Zimbabwe, going to the 7th Day Adventist, in the 90s. I love the Old Testament!

I was also baptized in England at a church called “WORD OF LIFE” in Lewisham, in the 00s
…
..
.

I still hold a Fear of God.
But it is dwarfed by a Love of God.
Ergo, under the love, there’s fear.
Cause God is the Wild Fires.
God is the Big Bang.
God is Eternity.
God is as destructive a force as God is infinitely creative.
We don’t need to destroy each other because God will claim us eventually.
For all of eternity. In the spiritual.
In the physical, our bones, our carbon, will turn into the Oil which future generations will use to repeat our mistakes.
While we’re here, we don’t need to play God.
Unless it’s in Fiction.
Or so say Me.
Live and let live.

That’s my philosophy.

Looking forward to sharing my short story with you!!

So come enjoy our artistry and leave with our Merch!
In my case, it is the sexy / witty AF books!!

🧨

PS: Slide 2 is the book cover for the aforementioned anthology, A RECORD OF EXTRAORDINARY LIVES. I was PHILIP K DICKING about when I wrote that shimmery shizzle! @hyperkitsch

I FRIGGING LOVE THAT SONG!!

Especially when it starts breaking down, in the last 3rd, echoing this notion of THE NOTORIOUS B.I.G’s life feeling like it was a dream the world shared. A dream that feels less real as time goes. And it makes me cry so often, this song. In the literal and metaphorical sense.
I was never a Biggie Fan / Stan and will probably never be. He was unhinged and super free as an Artist. I can be awed by him but not to the extent that I’m sitting through 2-3 songs, back-to-back.
His Hombre and Torch-bearer on the other hand, well, I digs the music of JAY-Z. Since BIGGIE SMALLS meant the world to JAY, I continuously grieve for what one of my favourite Artists lost: The Peer of a Lifetime.

If you wanna spend an hour listening to JAY-Z songs, celebrating his solo career, my edited show is now ready for you!! Head to www.refugeworldwide.com/artists/ncube
