Just a few images from our gorgeous & cosy first Sunday Session at Fincan Neukölln. We had a feeling it was going to be a good one and we’re still blown away by the two stunning performances, a truly inspiring discussion, and the beautiful constellation of people who joined us. Many, many thanks to the artists Grace Lu and Shona Stark who shared their work and their souls, and as ever, the brilliant Gorjeoux Moon for hosting. The Sunday Sessions are taking place on the first Sunday of the month until the New Year. Next event is Sunday, 1st November at Fincan Neukölln. We’re really looking forward to welcoming you there!

𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙎𝙐𝙉𝘿𝘼𝙔 𝙎𝙀𝙎𝙎𝙄𝙊𝙉𝙎 is a series of monthly talks and performances with Berlin-based artists, writers and musicians in recovery hosted by transdisciplinary artist Gorjeoux Moon. Join us in Fincan’s cosy community space for tea, performances and conversation on topics like: the strange ways we meet ourselves and others in sobriety; finding our voice and new modes of creative expression; overcoming creative blocks; the fear of being seen; representing vulnerability without exploitation; building support networks; class and economic insecurity; creative expression as emotional processing; navigating burnout and disability; self-care and sustainable creativity; who gets to call themselves an artist; mutual aid and collective support.

𝙎𝙃𝙊𝙉𝘼 𝙎𝙏𝘼𝙍𝙆 is a Berlin-based artist, multi-disciplinary designer, educator and PhD candidate. Her conceptual art practice focuses on multilayered language installations that are artworks which include combinations of language-based performance, multi-channel sound installation and spatial installation elements. These installations through the lens of language and love are the current focus of her practice-based doctoral research.

This summer, I presented my new book "Medeas Töchter" in a church, my favorite café, live on TV and in my editorial. I sent lots of packages with hand signed copies out to people and got readers to write reviews. I got to share the stage with some incredible human beings.

It was lovely. I'm really grateful I got to publish it. It's a good book, I'm happy with the outcome.

Now, I'll be taking a little break. This year, I have already started self-employment by opening my own law firm, created two websites, begun working as a coach for neurodivergent people and undertaken a health journey with no end in sight.

I'm extremely grateful for how rich my life is, and I'm burnt out. Read "Medeas Töchter" while I recover to come back with new stories!

“THE SKY IS MY FAVOURITE CANVAS”

Whether working with other Artists, such as that perennial favourite SOFIE ENGSTRÖM VON ALTEN, on that cover artwork she created in 2015 for “A RECORD OF EXTRAORDINARY LIVES” anthology, or handling that business myself as attested by my book covers & posters, I sure loves the sky!!

One the other reasons I moved to Berlin was cause I could look up and see the sky in all its wonder, like in ZIM and therein, lay some of my wildest stories; already writ by my spirit in permanent ink, waiting for the physical form to commit them to paper.

The one I shall be reading tonight is as close to a near-perfect parable as I have ever written. You may not like it how I love it, or think much of it, it’s okay. To each their own. We like what we like.
I know I have a tempestuous ace, in this tale, and I owe it to the expression, “the Sky is the Limit!”

Something you write today, you may be reading it in 11 years’ time, utterly convinced you caught magic in a bottle, on the day of its premiere.
Then the audience hears it and Reality finally catches up to you!! Ha! Lord Have Mercy. Haha

Come give me a dose of reality, or thank me by taking one of my books home. Perfect for that day when it finally dawns on you, Ncube might have been onto something all along. I pray it comes to pass. So you can wave one of my books and say, “I called it!!”

firstly and most importantly, I tip my cowboy hat to all those people out there looking out for each other, irrespective of color / creed / religion / gender / sexuality, in this green & blue ball floating in Time & Space.
Prayer works, helps, almost always. I pray for those affected directly & indirectly by acts of destruction.
My sincerest condolences to every one dealing with loss.
My own Father came to me in a dream last night and gave me such a hard-time. It drove me to tears.
Then I woke up and I was like, he’s been gone 20 years. That wasn’t him.
& moreover, I can’t wait to see him again, so I can give this masquerader a piece of my mind.
Let’s not be governed by figments of our imagination. The real people are complicated and tenderer.

& Now, as advertised…

On Thursday, I won’t be able to introduce myself. I’ll go straight into telling the epic shortie.
To rectify that, I wanna share this:

I was baptized in Zimbabwe, going to the 7th Day Adventist, in the 90s. I love the Old Testament!

I was also baptized in England at a church called “WORD OF LIFE” in Lewisham, in the 00s
…

.

I still hold a Fear of God.
But it is dwarfed by a Love of God.
Ergo, under the love, there’s fear.
Cause God is the Wild Fires.
God is the Big Bang.
God is Eternity.
God is as destructive a force as God is infinitely creative.
We don’t need to destroy each other because God will claim us eventually.
For all of eternity. In the spiritual.
In the physical, our bones, our carbon, will turn into the Oil which future generations will use to repeat our mistakes.
While we’re here, we don’t need to play God.
Unless it’s in Fiction.
Or so say Me.
Live and let live.

That’s my philosophy.

I FRIGGING LOVE THAT SONG!!

Especially when it starts breaking down, in the last 3rd, echoing this notion of THE NOTORIOUS B.I.G’s life feeling like it was a dream the world shared. A dream that feels less real as time goes. And it makes me cry so often, this song. In the literal and metaphorical sense.
I was never a Biggie Fan / Stan and will probably never be. He was unhinged and super free as an Artist. I can be awed by him but not to the extent that I’m sitting through 2-3 songs, back-to-back.
His Hombre and Torch-bearer on the other hand, well, I digs the music of JAY-Z. Since BIGGIE SMALLS meant the world to JAY, I continuously grieve for what one of my favourite Artists lost: The Peer of a Lifetime.
