There are some stories you’re lucky enough to tell once. And then there are the stories that find their way back to you.

I’m so grateful to be returning to Outside Mullingar for another journey—this time in beautiful Sierra Madre, at the base of Mt. Wilson.

It’s a beautiful, funny, heartbreaking story about love, family, home, and the courage it sometimes takes to let ourselves be loved written by John Patrick Shanley.

Just 16 performances, opening Friday, October 2nd!

If you’ve seen us before, come back and experience it with us again. If you haven’t, we’d love to welcome you.

Come spend an evening with us in Sierra Madre. I’d love to have you there. @sierra.madre.playhouse @the6thact @johnp.shanley @lizadseneca @kittyswink @arminshimerman #outsidemullingar #johnoatrickshanley #sierramadre #latheatre

Sukkot
At 59E59 Theaters Theater B
Friday evening July 24th 2026
🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗

A fantastic dark comedy play of a Irish catholic/Jewish family coming together to rejoice during their first time celebrating Sukkot while having the unveiling of their mother’s gravestone one year after her passing. This play of grief, togetherness, and religion is extremely touching and consistently surprisingly funny; constant unintended jokes from the father referencing catholic things (Amen, Jesus Christ, the sign of the cross with his hands, Christmas lights, and countless other references) while poorly attempting to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. The cast has fantastic chemistry and are all putting on extremely believable raw performances. I was particularly moved by Andy Robinson and found Jonathan Slavin hilarious and heartfelt. Leavitt’s writing is strong; both the witty sibling banter and the larger concepts of afterlife and meaning. He sprinkles in some King Lear over his tale of an old father and three ungrateful daughters. The set and other design elements are simple but don’t impede on the production. The talkback held at tonight’s performance was very interesting and certainly allowed the audience to speak their minds, mostly positive comments though the occasional unnecessary comment about raising a family between two religions leaves the children with no God was quite hilarious to me, the cast and playwright handled some of the questions of that nature very well.
This production is certainly worth checking out and if you don’t make it the play is worth reading for sure.

A great way to rejoice? Seeing SUKKOT by August 9th!

The 6th Act’s production of SUKKOT, written by Matthew Leavitt and directed by Joel Zwick, is now on stage through August 9 at 59E59 Theaters.

One year after losing his wife to cancer, Patrick Sullivan is still unable to overcome his overwhelming grief, until a rabbi introduces him to Sukkot — the only Jewish holiday where God directly commands us to rejoice! Suddenly energized with this new purpose, Patrick builds a sukkah (a hut) in their yard and forces his three grown children to celebrate as they return home to attend their mother’s unveiling ceremony.

SUKKOT is the hilarious and heartwarming story of a half-Jewish-half-Irish-Catholic family attempting to rejoice by celebrating a holiday that none of them had ever heard of.

Tickets range from $40 to $54. They can be purchased online at 59e59.org, where you can also find the complete performance schedule.
