One month ago, my team and I did something amazing. I led a project with little to no funding, centered around sparking the kind of questions young people should be reflecting on (Are we prepared to lead when the moment presents itself?) We targeted 1,000 young people across Sierra Leone. Surprisingly, over 1,200 young people applied globally. We had over 600 attendees onsite and over 500 online. This can only be God and a public show of the power of collaboration amongst young people, all in just two months. The impact of the Fortified Conference was massive, and I know it will scale immeasurably. From being a student at The Fort Institute, to becoming a Fortifier, and now the Country Director of The Fort Institute Sierra Leone, I can boldly say leadership is a skill worth every young person’s time. I am deeply grateful to The Fort Institute for helping me discover this side and passion I never knew I had, and to @geedfoundationsl for prioritizing young people and making this possible. To my amazing team of 21 passionate and resilient leaders across different fields, it was amazing working alongside you. I can’t wait to collaborate in the future. This doesn’t end here. There is so much more in store. I dare every young person to prepare themselves to LEAD NOW. #leaders #africa #sierraleone #youngleaders #wearethefuture

70 kids. And around 4,000 “are we there yet?” questions. 😂 This week, we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming 70 young readers from Arimah’s Literacy and Learning Initiative (ALLI) to Tacugama. ALLI is a community reading club where children learn to read, write and, perhaps most importantly, dream bigger. This time, they took the learning out of the books and into the forest. And then came the moment they had been waiting for: seeing chimpanzees for real. Not in a book. Not in a photograph. Right there in front of them. 💚 Our vet Jessica talked to a very curious group of eight-year-olds about chimpanzees and conservation. They discovered the story of Bruno and Tacugama’s founder, Bala, only to realise that the man from the story was actually there… and they got to meet him too. We particularly loved something ALLI wrote afterwards: “Kids don’t just read the stories, they get to meet the people in them.” And perhaps our favourite line of all: “Education doesn’t need four walls.” 🌿 They came for the chimps. Hopefully they went home with a little more curiosity about the natural world, a few new stories to tell, and some even bigger dreams. Thank you, ALLI, for spending such a wonderful day with us. 💚

Day Twenty-Eight of Celebrating Women’s Month: Spotlight on Arimah Bangura — Rising with Purpose, Leading Without Limits 🌟🇸🇱✨ Salone Na We Yone! 🇸🇱✨ This is Focus March, where we highlight Sierra Leonean women doing incredible things on the global stage. Today, we highlight a young, Miss Arimah Bangura. Born to Mrs. Hawa Bangura and the late Mr. David Bangura, Arimah was raised in a strict yet humble environment that shaped her values of discipline, purpose, and resilience from an early age. Spending part of her childhood in The Gambia, she grew up with a strong sense of identity and determination to succeed beyond limitations. From her early school days, Arimah stood out as a natural leader. From Murraydeen Primary School to Modern High International, she consistently took on leadership roles — serving as a prefect and head girl — proving that leadership is not given, but built through character, confidence, and consistency. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Fourah Bay College, went on to complete a Master of Philosophy in Political Science, and is currently pursuing her PhD — all while serving as a lecturer, shaping young minds and contributing to academic development in Sierra Leone. Beyond academics, Arimah discovered a passion for event planning, inspired by her mother’s natural talent for hosting and organizing. This passion gave birth to her brand, The Arimah’s — a platform that has grown beyond events into something deeply impactful. Through this initiative, she launched a reading club for children, creating a safe and inspiring space where young minds can explore books, build confidence, and discover purpose. Arimah is a dreamer, a doer, and a builder. She is an event planner, a cook, a writer, a lecturer, an entrepreneur, and above all, a woman committed to making a difference. Her story reminds us that education is about impact, creativity, and using knowledge to transform lives. Does her journey inspire you — from leading in school to building impact beyond it?
