Since I was a teenager, I had really bad acne. This carried on until my twenties and it became something that I always dealt with. Maybe it could have been hormonal, fungal, stress? Maybe everything? Maybe it’s the cream? I became the friend who was obsessed with skincare and was famous for having an hour-long skincare routine twice a day. But it was never fully resolved and I was stressed about the next flare up. Having high amount of melanin in my skin meant that scars would last months. It became a desperate attempt to try and do something fundamentally different is when I really saw a difference.

A little behind the scenes of what building a Korean wellness brand actually looks like 🇰🇷 Every store visit turns into market research, every lab meeting turns into a taste test, and every time we think we’re getting closer, there’s something else to improve. We’re currently developing two formats for our inner beauty line while upgrading our alcohol recovery shot, Night Owl. So my recent trip to Korea involved a LOT of time with our product development team, ingredient sourcing, packaging discussions and testing. Lots and lots of testing. For us, product development isn’t just about finding ingredients that look good on paper. It’s about getting efficacy, taste and absorption right without compromising on quality. We look closely at where our ingredients come from, how they work together, and whether we can create something we’d genuinely want to take ourselves. Sometimes a test goes well. Sometimes we’re sent straight back to the drawing board for the seventh time. 🫠 But that’s the reality of building a Korean wellness brand from the ground up. We’re not here just to sell products. We want to create Korean apothecary-inspired wellness products that earn a place in your everyday routine, and that means being a little obsessive about the details. After almost 1.5 years of working on this launch, we’re finally getting close. I brought a suitcase full of lab samples back to London, so naturally, more testing and more meetings are incoming. To everyone building something of their own, whether it’s a business, a product or a dream you’ve been working towards quietly for years, here’s a little cheers to you 🫶

We’re reformulating AWKN. Again. 👀 But one piece of customer feedback kept coming up: “Why can’t I just take one?” The honest answer is that our current formulation is designed to work more effectively when you take two shots. But instead of simply telling you that, we took the question back to our lab. What if we could make one shot do more? So that’s exactly what we’re working on. We’re developing a new formulation with our lab in Korea to make a single shot more effective, while also improving the taste and removing stevia from the formula. A little clarification on stevia: it’s not technically an artificial sweetener. It’s derived from a plant. But we’ve heard your feedback, and we know some of you would simply prefer a formula without it. And we think that matters. This isn’t a small tweak. Reformulating means new R&D, testing, production changes and, ultimately, higher manufacturing costs. But we’d rather invest in making AWKN better than simply keeping the same formula because it’s easier. Finding the right balance is the hard part. So we’re back in the lab, working on the next version of AWKN and building it around what you’ve actually told us you want. Because if we’re going to call ourselves a Korean apothecary for modern wellness, we want to keep earning that title. More to come. 🇰🇷 #KoreanWellness #CleanIngredients #FounderJourney #ProductDevelopment #hangoverremedy
