PIPPIN: “I didn’t think it would end this way.”
GANDALF: “End? No, the journey doesn’t end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.”
PIPPIN: “What, Gandalf? See what?”
GANDALF: “White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.”
PIPPIN: “Well, that isn’t so bad.”
GANDALF: “No. No, it isn’t.”

Any time spent at Bag End is time well spent. 🍃

Work in progress: pen and watercolor on paper.

“My dear Frodo,” exclaimed Gandalf. “Hobbits really are amazing creatures, as I have said before.
You can learn all that there is to know about their ways in a month, and yet after a hundred years they can still surprise you at a pinch.”

Some recent things inspiring me lately:
— Moments from the creative process
— Unexpected visits from two of my oldest friends, Chris and Paul (we go all the way back to kindergarten)
— Sketches and ideas for new paintings I can’t wait to begin
— And of course, two of the three most important women in my life

Grateful for these simple, rich moments—inside and outside the studio.

“So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
— Matthew 6:34

Do you have an idea for a portrait, a landscape, or another kind of custom artwork? I’d love to hear from you. I’m taking on a select few commissions right now while building my personal portfolio and offering very reasonable rates. Let’s collaborate on something beautiful.

So a couple years ago - I was bored and when I’m bored I have ideas 💡 To pull this idea off I needed a lot of help that I got from my friends and I’m so grateful for y’all’s patience through the night of filming! We pulled it off… check the link in my bio to watch the first iteration of “Stripped” - a routesetting reality tv show.

I can confirm that there is no place better to enjoy a crisp, blustery fall morning than in The Canopy. This is a moment I’ve waited for since I got into tree climbing: just being able to sit with Paul, @the_dapper_dirtbag.

Find something you love you’ll never work a day in your life. Not a bad way “to bring home work”.

Today is a very special day, a day I get to honor the birth of a very special person: Paul.
His life so far has been far from easy, often suffering in the shadows. There have been times I’ve known that he has felt like a ghost or a mere cog in someone else’s machine. I’ve been there in the moments where life just kicked him in the teeth and then shit in his mouth. But he possess a kind of strength where he just chews, stands up, dusts himself off, and then just drives the fuck on.
I’ve never known someone with such strength, courage, and passion. Nor have I met another with a heart as big or as filled with genuine Love. Simply put, when you stand next to him you stand next to a saint.
The tests he’s faced this past year alone would have crushed other mortals, but not my Paul. Not him. I honestly don’t think I could have made it through this past year without him. I honestly don’t think I’d have become the man I am today without him and his inspiration.
Through all of this trouble and strife Paul is still there to remind me what matters most in our lives: each other and our adventures. From the moment we graced this world 35 years ago he has always been my partner in every hair-brained scheme or crazy adventure. He has always been my biggest champion and my biggest source of strength. We’ve summited everything from refrigerators and vending machines to mountains. Swam in everything from creeks to oceans. We’ve navigated starless nights, the despair of poverty, and the darkness of heartbreak. Together. Never alone. Always together. Always.
I wake everyday grateful you’re alive. There’s not one day that I’m not thankful to have you by my side. I am honored beyond measure to know I share genes with such greatness.
🍻
Here’s to more summits like this. And regardless of the valleys we will continue endure we will continue to endure them together. Always.
Happy Birthday Paul, @the_dapper_dirtbag
Thanks for just simply being you.

Welcome Paul @keystoneroutesetting to the MetroRock NYC team!

If you haven’t already noticed, we’ve got a new Head Routesetter! Paul will be the Head Routesetter for MetroRock Bushwick and Williamsburg. He has been setting for about five years, has set at every MetroRock, with the exception of Essex, and has set for climbing gyms from Massachusetts to Tennessee. Give him a welcome the next time you see him around the gym!

Heading south through the cape cod canal for the first time, through buzzards bay and eventually into Newport. A lot of firsts on my first trip on our new to us boat Pangur Ban.
