What does a year traveling the US in a camper look like?

Surprises, repairs, breakdowns, a camper destroyed by a storm, amazing memories, and some genuinely great people we never would’ve met otherwise.

Looking back through the videos and photos still feels surreal. In one year, we covered 42 states, put about 31,000 miles on the truck, traveled around 17,000 miles with the camper, and still managed another 14,000 plus miles just exploring.

It feels like we somehow packed a lifetime of vacations, problems, lessons, and memories into one year.

Still kind of hard to believe we actually lived all of it.

We started this as a 16,000-mile trip across the country, and the plan was to go back home when it was over.

But the things we’ve experienced along the way have been incredible, and as of yesterday, we officially decided to stay on the road long term.

We’ll head home in a few months to wrap up a few things, cut some of the costs we’re still carrying there, and get rid of what we no longer need. We had basically put that life on pause so we could do this, but that pause button was expensive. It was also our escape hatch.

Now we’re getting rid of the escape hatch.

The plan is to keep doing this for at least the next couple of years. The things we’ve learned, the places we’ve seen, and the people and friends we’ve met along the way have been absolutely epic. Other than the friends we left behind, there’s honestly nothing about our old life that we miss.

Just yesterday, I changed our entire trajectory in about an hour, and it was easy. I don’t know that I’ll ever want to give that kind of freedom up.

They say the American dream is owning a home with a white picket fence. I’d challenge that.

The American dream is having the freedom to do what you want, where you want, and waking up to a different backdrop every week.

Over the past year, this journey has taken us onto lobster boats in Maine, through sunsets on Florida’s Gulf Coast, to some of the best brisket in Texas. We’ve stood at the Grand Canyon, walked the beaches of Monterey, visited the Santa Monica Pier, gone clamming in Oregon, hung out near the Canadian border, and seen places made famous by movies like Back to the Future and The Goonies.

Any one of those would make a great annual vacation.

We get to do something like that every week.

How do you beat that?
