We have been having our bathroom fixed this weekend. Today has been an odd one with work and I feel very unsettled. Pain and fatigue is still very high.
So i thought id share some #bluecover books with you. Ive met @samuelburr at @the_book_taster event
I have read "Meet the Newmans" last month and this spread edge is just so clever.

Synopsis:
Jay Gardiner has given himself a fool’s errand—to find the remains of his deceased father in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California. He knows it’s a long shot, but Jay feels it’s the only way for him to lift the weight of guilt he has carried since his dad’s death the previous year.

The dive begins well enough, but the sudden appearance of a giant squid puts Jay in very real jeopardy, made infinitely worse by the arrival of a sperm whale looking to feed. Suddenly, Jay is caught in the squid’s tentacles and drawn into the whale’s mouth where he is pulled into the first of its four stomachs. He quickly realizes he has only one hour before his oxygen tanks run out - one hour to defeat his demons and escape the belly of a whale.

Review:
Now I’m going to start by saying it will be a hard task to find a book where ‘sphincter’ is used more 🤣
I loved everything about this book, and it was more than just a race against time. We see a volatile relationship between father and son, where snippets of life over the last 17 years give us a bigger picture of where things went wrong between them.

I’m an absolute sucker though, for a story where science and logic are a big part of getting out of a perilous situation. This is a similar story in terms of that to The Martian, Project Hail Mary, 127 Hours, Drowning, Falling and Eruption. Nearly all of these books have been 5 stars from me and when people now say what is your favourite genre, the answer is anxiety driven thrillers, with people in peril. Catchy right?! If you have any more books with end of the world style stories where people must overcome situations to survive, please rec me!!!!

✨Old-Skool Challenge Club ✨

My goodness, what a crazy week it’s been!

What started as a germ of an idea last Thursday has captured the imagination of Booksta and given it a good old shake up!

A sign—if ever one was needed—that people want to return to the Booksta of yore, when no one had heard of algorithms, engagement groups and follow trains. When it was all about the community, the books, the banter and, most importantly, the FUN!

So, I’m here today to share with you the second of this week’s old-skool challenges, as set by @jac_in_a_book — an #IAmAnAutumn stack.

Now, I have to confess that this is an expression I’ve never heard of. I keep thinking a word is missing — an autumn what? An autumn leaf? An autumn breeze? An autumn day?

But, I’m reconciled to the fact the I am clearly the ‘old’ in ‘old-skool 👵🏼

Never mind 🙄

The challenge was to create a post showcasing all the glorious colors of autumn. And I think I’ve managed that 🍂🍁🍂

And, in true old-skool style, I’m using my 20 tags to invite some old friends to attempt the challenge. No pressure, of course.

I used to love an old fashioned challenge so was super excited to see that @hook.me.a.book @jac_in_a_book and @chapter1.page1 are bringing a bit of fun back to the grid with their Old Skool Challenge; three prompts every Friday, you choose which one to join in with, if any. For fun not engagement strife.

For week 1 I picked The Game Show challenge which is right up my street - I think all of these would be fun to watch (if a little dark…😈).

Old-skool Booksta 👩‍🏫

Drumroll please for my first post as part of the #OldSkoolChallengeClub

I’ve gone for the one set by Dee @Chapter1.Page1 — #OneWordTitleStack

And as you can see, I’m going full bells and whistles, having never been one to do anything by halves 🔔 🪈 Show off? Me? 🤭

I don’t have much to say about the books as most are TBR, but I can highly recommend Peacock and Catherine, and I’m loving my current read, Sanctuary, the load-bearer sweating buckets at the base of my tower 😰

So what is this Old-Skool Challenge Club, I hear you ask?

Well, it’s an initiative to take Booksta back to its roots. Back to a time when it was less about numbers, reach and the algorithm, and more about books, creativity, fun, banter and making friends.

We’ve dug out a list of 150+ bookish challenges from back in the day and will be tackling them week by week for the foreseeable.

And get this—we will NOT be tagging engagement groups.

Which is why I’ve taken a trip in my time machine back to 2020 and rediscovered a whole host of early friends that I’ve sadly lost contact with. And I’m tagging them here, the old-skool way, to join in the challenge. Let’s see if any of them are brave enough to give this a go.

I received this pink package of joy (actually it’s more tears, heartache and trauma) from @instabooktours as part of the epic @rebeccayarros emotional support group readalong happening later this month.
