October is spina bifida awareness month but in my household I’m reminded of it daily, life has been challenging for me since day dot but with my wonderful family and friends by my side it helps immensely. Reading has been a constant in my life and helped me in so many ways. I’ve went to so many interesting places whilst sitting reading a book . Books are like medicine for the soul and I’m very grateful for that xx by @the_procastinating_reader_

Hungerstone by Kat Dunn is a Gothic, feminist horror novel that reimagines the classic vampire tale Carmilla, following Lady Lenore Crowther as she meets the enchanting and mysterious Carmilla her life as she knows it will never be truly the same again . My thoughts - this book has been on my radar for such a long I’ve heard such incredible things about it, I’ve recently rejoined my local library and this was on audio so I decided to give it a listen and boy I’m so glad I did firstly the narrator was incredibly I felt I was in the room with the characters watching the story play out. secondly the characters were amazing carmilla , lenore and even the abdominal Henry were incredibly written. As I listened I was so invested in each of there stories it was so vivid in my minds eyes the setting was immense I didn’t want the story to end . I can’t wait to read more of kat Dunns works and would highly recommend Hungerstone after I finished it I felt I was saying goodbye to friends sounds melodramatic I know but that’s the sign of a good book in my eyes by @the_procastinating_reader_

Happy 79th birthday Stephen king a remarkable story teller , my mum was a avid reader and she loved his books I remember her sitting on holiday reading Christine and I was intrigued by his books . Like so many people I know I was probably too young when I read his books but he scared and fascinated me in equal measure. I’ve read a fair number but still got loads of his books to read. So here is a selection of my favourites I’m saddened as I couldn’t find The shining on my shelves it’s done a disappearing act. Im a strange one as I can sit happily reading his words but I can’t watch his books made into films I don’t do horror films weird I know . So fellow sk fans what’s your favourite book? by @the_procastinating_reader_

The Hunger by Alma Katsu is a historical horror novel that reimagines the tragic journey of the Donner family. The story follows a group of pioneers as they push deeper into the mountains, facing the harsh realities of their plan gone awry, and the possibility of something unnatural stalking them. Firstly I’d lik to thank @rhirhireader for her amazing #rhirhireadalong when I heard she was starting her readalong I signed up straight away as I get older my taste in books is ever changing and I like to mix it up, I was happy I chose to read this with this lovely ladies. what a great bunch and the story was brilliant , I had done my research beforehand and coupled with Stephen king blurbing it I was equally scared and excited but I wasn’t to scared (think sk may be getting scared in his old age šŸ˜‚) sorry I shouldn’t disrespect the master . On a serious note it had some yucky scenes so check trigger warnings and lastly I can’t wait to read more readalongs. Booksta is the best community I’ve read so many different book I wouldn’t dream of reading if it wasn’t for the community and the friends I’ve made by @the_procastinating_reader_

Firstly I would like to thank @charlottekrasniqi.author for giving me an ARC for her second book in the Elements series The fire within us , I’m truly thankfully to you. I read her first book The sea between us in record time and I absolutely loved the characters of Elizabeth and Theo. So I was super eager to dive in the second instalment the characters of kitty and Oliver are next level , kitty is amazing and I could definitely see myself propping up the bar with her setting the world to rights . Charlotte has this incredible knack of making her characters feel so real that we all know them personally. I can’t wait for you all to enjoy this book for yourselves out on September 24th. Well done Charlotte another cracker of a book by @the_procastinating_reader_

I read IT over 10 years ago and was instantly hooked on the story, Stephen King has this incredible talent of making a bunch of characters get right under your skin with just his words along . Pennywise the clown is one of those such characters he truly fascinates and terrifies me in equal measure, today I got this special edition of this cracking book I squealed with delight when I got it but sadly it came damaged so I’m returning it and a new copy will eventually go on pride of place on my book shelf . I like to thank @steffreadsbooks and @clairyfairyfluff for the buddy re-read . I’m making my way through Stephen’s kings books #bookworm #stephenkingbooks by @the_procastinating_reader_

Happy national book lovers day to all my booksta friends, books are simply magic they bring so much joy when life gets hard you can escape into vast worlds without stepping outside your door no passport needed. whatever your tastes there is book for you just waiting to be discovered . The only tiny issue is once you start reading you can’t get enough and your tbr is like Mount Everest but it’s good to have a variety of reads. So my question is what one book got you into reading? For me it was Nancy Drew books and as an adult The shadow of the wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon by @the_procastinating_reader_

Alice Feeney’s Rock Paper Scissors is a psychological thriller set in a remote Scottish Highlands chapel, following Adam and Amelia Wright as their troubled marriage unravels through secrets, face blindness, and a twist‑driven suspense. My thoughts- this book has been on my shelf longer than I care to admit, Im annoyed I didn’t read it sooner, what a fantastic book read it so quick which is unheard of for me. I throughly enjoyed it and never guessed the twists and turns #bookstagrammer #thrilllerbooks by @the_procastinating_reader_

The Poppy War by R.F Kuang follows Fang Runin (Rin), a war orphan who rises from poverty to become a powerful shaman and soldier, confronting the horrors of war and the cost of wielding immense power. My thoughts- firstly I’d like to give a big thank you to lovely Gem @zeroshelfcontrol as I won her giveaway for the poppy war trilogy books, these books have been on my radar for a very long time. What a book it’s truly a masterpiece of writing , it’s unflinching in its story telling chapter 21 (if you’ve read it you’ll know) I will never get those images out of my head . The characters in this story are truly remarkable and I feel I was fighting along with them at every turn, this book will not be for everyone but if you fancy reading it please check triggers there are many attached to this book. I’m eager to read the second book but will not rush straight into I need a breather . Ps I’m a amateur photographer and this image of the poppy is my own creative piece xx by @the_procastinating_reader_

Six years ago today I made this account to kick start my love of reading as I had lost my mojo for it, never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine I’d not only fall madly in love with reading again, but I’d find firm friends not only do we share book recommendations and reviews we share life updates . Unfortunately with my health issues and logistically where I live I haven’t meet many of you in person but that will all change I’m so sure. This community is super important to me and it makes me smile so much I’m forever grateful to you all . The only downside my tbr is now like Mount Everest and my husband will have to move to another house so I have more room for my books (only joking šŸ˜‚ ) my tastes in book genres have changed so much since I first joined booksta and without this community I wouldn’t have dared get out of my comfort zone xxx by @the_procastinating_reader_
