Spencer’s sunshine dahlia having a slight change of heart later on in the season and randomly producing a bloom that looks totally different from all the others…loving the extra layer of petals, nature really is magical!

September highlights ✨
A month of harvests, catching up with friends and getting my bake on.
I’ve spent more time cooking than gardening in recent weeks and I’ve really enjoyed it. And I’ve not poisoned anyone in the process 😆
I had a much over due catch up with @the_spencers_at_plot_13 at the Wisley dahlia show. We definitely spent more time coffee-ing and chattering than looking at flowers 😄
I also met up with my hike pal @torisallotment for an inspiring session on all things kitchen garden.
This month I also celebrated my eldest son’s 16th Birthday which makes me feel so proud and old all at the same time! 😆

A Kitchen Garden project ~ the journey so far 🌱
.
If you’ve been reading @gardenfolkmag you will know exactly what we’ve been up to. And if you haven’t?!….well, I’d love you to do so ☺️
{links can be found in my Kitchen Garden highlight}
I’ve been documenting a detailed account of the thoughts and process behind what has lead to us change the function of our home garden.
.
My goal was to make this a family project that we could all enjoy and be proud of. I wanted to get my kids away from their tech, get them back outdoors and create a space where they could ‘switch off’. This project has done exactly that and I often find them mooching about the greenhouse with a snack in hand.

Well, I can’t quite believe it, but it looks like we’ve got a honka dahlia @the_spencers_at_plot_13.
.
This is the third of the dahlias I grew from seed using seeds sent by the lovely Ali. It’s funny because this one was the weaker one, but this year has done really well and its petals have finally curled to become a honka.
.
It’s actually a bit more burgundy than it looks in this photo and I’m a big fan. Will be interesting if this is it now and it’s become stable so I can finally name it and know what to expect the next year.

Strike a (veg) pose challenge!
Have you even grown it if you don’t strike a pose with it?

@happy_place_gardener invented it
@starof_72 and @annasgardenjourney nominated me whilst away in Northumberland and I took my sweet time but here it is.

Challenge finally accepted @starof_72
Better late than never 😂

A little while ago, Shona challenged me to capture my June garden in a reel to look back on later on in the year, when the garden will be bare.

Well Shona here she is, a little neglected for my time away, but full of glimmers on my return ✨💖✨

Thanks for the challenge Shona.

A little late but I tag;

🥔🤎🫛💚🌼💛

Jazzy potato’s have been harvested early because the foliage had died back already. I’m guessing this is probably due to me not keeping up with the watering! Either way, happy little harvest. Thanks to @the_spencers_at_plot_13 my BSFE 💕 for the original taters 😆
I also currently have peas coming out of my ears 🤣 so I have podded what feels like a million peas and blanched & froze them 👌🏽
3 headed calendula at the plot, sounds about right for that growing space! 😏

THE shortest sweet pea stems I've ever known 😂😂

But would you look at the colour of the dark ones!🖤💜

Ali I think these are from your seeds you sent me as I've never seen this gorgeous colour before ...thank you x

Also it's a bud case sat on a bloody post it note for scale 😂😂

They smell amazing tho 👃

Happy Easter to you all 💖
Here’s a few pics from the weekend. Forgotten overwintered carrots, another radish harvest and the last of the garden spinach and kale, plenty more at the plot

Some from the weekend 🥦💜🥬 🩷
I’ve been a very busy bee this weekend!
I cleared a lot of spikey tree mess at the bottom of the plot which needed doing but I was putting it off!!..still plenty to do but I made a start! 💪🏽
I potted on what feels like a million seedlings, planted bulbs & tubers and sowed far too many seeds 😂
I also kicked out some of the windowsill seedlings into the greenhouse because I needed the room for more! 😝
All in all a very productive weekend!
