Just 2 days to go until the official launch of Dancing on Knives!

I'm so excited - and nervous - to share this novel with the world. It took me 6 years to write, so knowing that in 48 hours it will be on bookshelves across the country feels like a miracle.

Honno is a brilliant publishing house. In publishing my book, they've taken a risk on a debut novelist no-one has ever heard of (yet!). And they're a small Welsh indie press - they don't have a huge marketing team and a splashy budget. So if you've read this far, please can I ask a small favour?

Next time you're passing your local bookshop or library, would you ask them to order in Dancing on Knives? Or if you're a member of a book group, would you suggest it for your reading list? You'd be helping out a fantastic press, and a friend. xx

A thrilling cardboard box just turned up on my doorstep. 🧡❤️

I love the final cover! The red spine is so striking, and that pink sun under the black bridge very nearly made me cry.

The person I wish I could show this to the most? My grandma. She would have been so proud – and as an artist, too, I know she’d have approved immensely.

The bookmarks were a beautiful surprise. And I’ll be wearing my Honno badge proudly at my book launch on 30th January.

Thank you to the wonderful @gemmasfunkyart for catching this on video!

I love the physicality of writing on my 60-year-old Olivetti typewriter.

I love the ping at the end of each line, and how hard I have to hit the keys. I love the way each letter dents into the paper. I even love how each mistake is indelible. You can’t fix it – you have to live with it.

It’s inefficient, it’s slow, it’s HEAVY. Imagine taking it into a coffee shop. You’d really be taking up space.

And taking up space is something I’m trying to practice this year. Not in an obnoxious way – I don’t want to hog two seats on the bus. But I want to ping at the end of each line I write. I want to dent the paper.

Writers are wonderful. A few weeks ago I put an invitation out into the universe: meet me for a night of writing. Thank you Bath for making Wednesday evening so memorable!

Seeing so many old friends with have been to my creative writing classes in the past 2 years was just incredible. And meeting new people who care about holding space for creativity filled me with hope.

Let's do it again soon. Let's make this snowball!

Last week I launched 'A Writing Life': a new weekly online workshop for writers at any stage in their journey. We meet every Friday morning, 7.30-8.30am. This week's theme is WATER - often a symbol of transformation and new life in fiction and poetry.

In an ideal world, I’d run this workshop for free. As an indie novelist, I simply can't afford that. But I do want to make it as affordable as possible, so I’m subsidizing £7.50 places each week for the rest of this year at www.thewritingset.co.uk/a-writing-life, using the voucher code HALFPRICE24

This is where I’d really appreciate your help! If you know someone who might like to join a session, please share this post and spread the word for me. Even better, come yourself and bring a friend! Our little community needs a few more members. Please take a few minutes to help me meet them.
