🇦🇫♾️ ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS: AFGHAN AUTISM MOM EDITION 💙

Bet we’d win every round! 😏💪🏼 Dare to play with an Afghan autism mom?

Round after round, we’ll choose acceptance over shame, understanding over judgment, and support over silence. Because our children deserve better than people that tells families to hide their autism.

❌ Autism is not something to hide.
❌ Autism is not caused by bad parenting or a lack of faith.
❌ Autistic children do not need more shame, blame, or punishment.
✅ They need understanding, acceptance, support, and a community that stands beside them.

To my Afghan community: 🇦🇫 It’s time we break the silence and challenge the stigma. Our children deserve to belong, and our families deserve to feel supported; not judged.

💙 HERE’S MY CHALLENGE TO YOU:
Share this post. Start the conversation. Challenge harmful beliefs when you hear them. And stand beside an Afghan family that may be struggling in silence.
Let’s make autism something we can talk about openly, without fear or shame.

I’ll keep playing until acceptance wins. Will you join me? ♾️👇

My work shows the reality of Afghan girls who are denied their right to education. The closed school represents the barriers placed between girls and their future. I use a playful pixel-game style to contrast with the serious reality behind the image.
For five years, many Afghan girls have been waiting for the doors of their schools to open again. They are not asking for much, they simply want to learn, dream, and build their own future.
A closed school is not just a closed door; it is a closed future.

Chess of the Wind (1976)
Original title: Shatranj-e Baad

Chess of the Wind is a landmark of Iranian art cinema. The film screened once at the Tehran International Film Festival before being banned in 1979, after which it was long believed lost, surviving only in poor-quality, censored VHS copies. In 2015, the original negatives were discovered in an antique shop in Tehran, making restoration and reintroduction possible.

While firmly rooted in Iranian cinema, the film’s visual language reflects a wider Persianate cultural sphere shaped by centuries of shared artistic traditions across the region.

Follow for more fashion history ❤️

The Horsemen (1971) provides a rare visual record of traditional Afghan dress, captured on location in northern Afghanistan. Costume design functions as ethnographic documentation, highlighting garments such as the chapan overcoat, pakol and turban headwear, embroidered waistcoats, belted tunics, layered wool textiles, and leather riding boots.

These garments illustrate a balance of function and aesthetic: textiles and layering are adapted to climate and equestrian activity, while vibrant colors, intricate embroidery, and woven patterns convey social identity, regional affiliation, and artisanal skill. The film demonstrates that Afghan fashion is not only practical but also richly expressive, offering insight into how color, texture, and silhouette provide both visual beauty and cultural meaning.

From a fashion studies perspective, The Horsemen serves as an important archive of pre‑conflict Afghan clothing, showing how traditional attire integrates craftsmanship, mobility, and heritage to create ensembles that are simultaneously functional, symbolic, and visually striking.

Back to the roots.
When hippies traveled through Afghanistan, discovered these coats in their original home, and carried the culture back with them.
This is where the journey of Afghan coats began. 🧥✌️

Prisoners of the Afghan Pamir (2013)

Set in the Wakhan Corridor of northeastern Afghanistan, this documentary follows Kyrgyz nomads living high in the Pamir Mountains. Recognized as Afghan citizens, the community has long lived with minimal state presence, sustaining its way of life in a region shaped primarily by geography and long-standing ways of life.

👁 🌟 ❤ 🎬 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽
🎥 ~ via @theafghanmuse | 'THE UNIVERSE OF THE MANAS', 1995 | A sweeping epic from KYRGYZSTAN, this film celebrates the richness of Kyrgyz Culture, history, and visual tradition. What stood out to me most were the jewelry, ornate silver headpieces, bold necklaces, and intricate metalwork that carry centuries of meaning.

These designs reflect the shared artistic language found across CENTRAL ASIA.

The similarities in metalwork, motifs, and craftsmanship aren’t accidental; they come from connected histories, nomadic routes, Silk Road exchanges, and cultural ties that have shaped both Kyrgyz and northern Afghan traditions.

Watching the film, you can feel those threads: how neighboring cultures influence one another, creating a beauty that is both shared and distinct.
