What an amazing roller coaster journey!

I am so honored and blown away by how magical, connective, playful, deep and inspiring this experiment ended up being!

This Thursday, we welcome back one of The Residency’s all time favorites - Mendeleyev Galileo Einstein Pythagoras Darwin Euclid Leonardo Allan-Blitz, or as we like to call him - Lev (Which also means heart in Hebrew)
Besides his big heart, and deep passion to community building, he is known as a breathtaking baritone Singer/Songwriter/Producer based in LA.
@mendeleyev co-founded the community singing group Harmonize @harmonizevoices Appearing on Season 17 of NBC’s The Voice on John Legend’s Team, his low booming voice got all 4 coaches to turn their chairs. He has a fresh and folky yet funky take on music. Fun and full of energy, Mendeleyev is one to follow his own COMPASS, and hens the theme of the night…

This Thursday we will explore the theme of “Compass”
Somewhere underneath the noise, the jittery thoughts, the fears, the shoulds and should-nots, something in us already knows. Call it your heart, a gut feeling or an instinct. That voice always points us in the right direction.
The hard part was never finding the compass. It is quieting the other voices enough to hear the one that actually matters… The one guiding us home…
A compass doesn’t tell you the destination. It just tells you, moment to moment: warmer, or colder. Are you getting closer to YOU?

This morning I woke up from terrible sleep.
Pouted for a bit before picking up my phone to do both necessary and meaningless things.

Remembered I needed to change the windshield wipers that had been busting for two weeks.
The new ones I’d ordered were sitting on the hallway bench, patiently waiting for me.

After easily changing the windshield wipers (I checked, they work), I decided to give my car a sweep
I’ve been on the go for the better part of weeks and it was time I removed some unnecessary things.

In the process, I grabbed a jar in the cup holder that had been… (yup, you guessed correctly)
Loosely screwed the lid on and filled my hands with 5 or 6 other things.
That was my mistake, clearly, because next thing I knew—
*Crash!*
I watched it fall in slow motion
“F!“
I hope none of the neighbors were listening to me yell obscenities (before 9am… whoopsie)

Sharp breath.
Threw my head back
Looked down.
Glass jar now deconstructed in small and large pieces around my feet.
🦆 me.

Now you have to understand.
It was one of my *good* jars.
One of the Ball ones with the wide mouth.
The perfect size for overnight oats or iced coffees that I never can complete.

I had been motivated by the need to extract what I noticed was misplaced or faulty
And, in the process, let something slip through my fingers.
Typical.
Aggravating.

I shook the shards out of my shoe.
Grabbed a paper bag and the gloves I use for pumping gas (lucky me, I’ll need to do that again, too soon).
Time to get to work before all of the other work gets to me.

Ok, so it funny how your perspective can totally change the way you see.
A mountain can fit in the palm of my hand when I’m miles and miles away
But I feel like a pebble when standing at its base.

Squatting down, selecting and discarding pieces had a similar effect
I began to notice how lovely of a day it was
and how calming the birds sound was

I took the liberty of taking my time.
To enjoy a bit of the morning.
To do the necessary task of attending to the relatively small mishap.

Changed from “of course this would happen” to— “hey, it just be like that sometimes. We can buy a new jar.”

And guess what?
I can.

It’s been one of the most challenging years of my life, and boy there have been a few in the last two decades. yet I would be ignoring the privilege and gratitude of having glimmers woven through the challenges. Looking through my camera roll, I realize there were so many moments that will only live in my mind and heart, but here are a few that I was lucky enough to have visual proof of. More than Half way through this life (if I live as long as my Dad) and I hope I continue to love the way I have- even more, continue to improve and grow, and be an embodiment of love and care for the people I get to do life with. On this Solar returns, my wish remains between me and father Sun and Mother Earth- but I will share this- life is short, nothing is guaranteed but change, and we could all be kinder to someone (often times ourselves.) with gratitude for all the souls that have helped me survive this year, feel loved when I felt unlovable, and just shown up. We get to choose, and I choose you. 🫂🫶🏽✨💓
(blessed to have so many angels in my life, many not pictured or named)

No matter how often I visited or spent time it never felt like there was enough with you.🤍🤍🤍

Something shifting, bigger than I can name in this moment. Always with me, ancestor now.
