BEYOND THE YARD | EP. 4
Bro. W. E. B. Du Bois 🤙🏾

Knowledge is powerful, but its true value lies in how we use it to uplift others. This week, the Xi Delta Chapter’s Beyond the Yard series honors a brother whose pursuit of education, equality, and justice helped shape the course of history.

His legacy reminds us that Alpha excellence extends beyond personal achievement. It is reflected in our willingness to challenge injustice and uplift our communities.

The legacy continues. 🤙🏾

What are we up to? It's been an eventful week. But let's just talk about last Saturday.

Those Purveyors of Cool, those Men of Distinction from the Gold Coast otherwise affectionately known as Long Island were all over NY, on Saturday doing great things:
1. We represented our district conference in Harlem named NYACOA. Bro President Julian Goodman, Bro Chapter Dean Gerard Brogdon and the rest of the team represented well. So much in fact that we won Chapter of the Year!
2. Our Neo Bro. Garry Nelson and Bro. Paul Samms and the Educational Foundation were educating students and parents on Finances at our College Tour Workshops at Hofstra University.
3. We drove all the way to the other end of the island to support our Brother Congressman Gregory Meeks at the @dstsuffolkcounty panel on Democracy. This included Bro. Nicholas Pierce, Bro. Councilman DuWayne Gregory, and Neo Bro. Robert Rose Esq.
4. Lastly we chopped it up with our college Bros @rhokappaalphas at Old Westbury's Homecoming.

And this Saturday?
1. Lakeview community clean up
2. College Tour workshops
3. Merit Badge classes for the Boy Scouts

Ah! Oh to be an Alpha Man.... The Good Life!

The Alpha Communities Foundation, Inc. (ACF) has made its first Demonstration Grant!

At Alpha Alpha Lambda Chapter’s Centennial Gala on September 19, 2026, the ACF presented a $10,000 grant to support the Alpha Community Center — a philanthropic community center project of Alpha Alpha Lambda Community Development, Inc. serving Newark, New Jersey and the surrounding area.

Four members of ACF’s Board — Glenn Ford, Jr., Dele Oladapo, Rob Hardy, and Byron L. Anderson — represented the ACF at the presentation, joining Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and Alpha Alpha Lambda’s leadership to mark the occasion in front of the chapter’s Centennial guests.

This Demonstration Grant is made under the ACF’s Community Redevelopment pillar.

Two decades after the Fraternity’s founding, Brothers in New Jersey saw the need for a local chapter to support their fight against the color line while building their own careers. On October 13, 1926, they gathered at the Newark home of Bro. Dr. Clarence S. Janifer, Sr. led by Bro. Peyton Anderson, Eastern Regional Vice President, with Bro. James Fladger and Bro. Leslie Thompson of Eta Chapter (Columbia University) to form New Jersey’s first chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Fourteen alumni were ultimately recognized and the chartering line became known as ‘The Original 14.’”

This weekend, we had the privilege of honoring the foresight and vision of the Original 14. As a chapter, we remain committed to continuing that impact and making a difference in our community. As we celebrate 100 years of dedicated service and outstanding fraternalism, we all recognize that we stand on the shoulders of giants who served before us.

Cheers to a century as the first and largest chapter in the State of New Jersey. One Brotherhood. All Business. Phocused Benevolence. Driven by a Legacy! Defined by Greatness! “PREMIERE”
