I can’t decide what’s more exciting… hearing the new song on the radio (thanks @teekaydfe 🙏🏼) OR, being able to start driving again.

Recovery from surgery has been going well, and easing back into normal things like driving, going to church, taking the girls to school, etc has been really special.

I’m still trying to find the balance of building up stamina and energy, whilst giving my noggin the time and rest it needs to recover. It’s a dance I haven’t quite figured out yet.

Thank you to everyone who has been so patient and supportive during this process. It means a lot, especially with not being out of the woods quite yet, even though looks look normal externally. (*normal is debatable, I know. 😂)

I’m especially grateful for my wife, our friends and our community during this time. I’m choosing to be thankful amidst the highs and lows, and am genuinely just happy to be here. 😊

A little BTS of some of the layers in “Where Would I Be?”. In hindsight, I could have swapped up the guitar and amp between parts for better separation, but I struck while the iron was hot. 🤷🏼‍♂️

On its own, the sound feels almost a tad “seasick”, but double it with a slightly different setting, and put them right and left, and voila… it shimmers underneath nicely.

“everything reminds me of you” is out now 🤍

I wrote this song a little under a year ago, I was writing every morning back then, partly just to fill the time. Routine kept me steady, and the weight of the grief was heavy. Everything seemed to remind me of him.

This song is about knowing it will take time. Everything does.

A few fun parts that came about when creating this song:

- Every lyric in this song comes from my journals between September and December of last year.

- Arnel and I wanted the instrumentation to feel like time passing: slow, steady, and everchanging in the way it builds. You can hear the song gradually take shape, and it feels like those months did. Hopeful, long but always something new around the corner.

- In the new year, Arnel had the idea to send it to the incredibly talented @theanalogdream who added so much colour and texture. The song wouldn’t be the same without him, and he’s since become one of my favourite artists. Please if you want to hear more - go take a listen to his music.

Lyrics often come last to me during the songwriting process for whatever reason. I have friends that I would consider to be prolific writers who make it look effortless, whereas it takes me a little longer to sculpt and discover what I’m trying to say.

Why is it so hard to write Love songs that aren’t corny?? (…One could argue that this song is still corny, I suppose 😂)

I worked really hard at not settling for “good enough”, and I’m really proud of it. It’s special to see something come together and also to observe how the meaning of it can deepen or change over time.

I hope you can find some meaning in the words, and that maybe this song could become part of the soundtrack of your life. I hope it reminds you to be thankful for the one you love. ❤️
