Daryl Bosco, PhD, threw out the first pitch for the Angel Fund for ALS Research’s 23rd annual 100 Innings of Baseball event, held this weekend in Quincy. Some participants played in all 100 innings—which works out to about 36 consecutive hours of baseball! ⚾

Dr. Bosco, the Paul J. DiMare Chair in Neurodegenerative Disease, professor of neurology and biochemistry & molecular biotechnology, and associate vice chair of research for the Department of Neurology, is one of the ALS researchers supported by the Angel Fund.

The event has raised more than $1 million for ALS research over the past 23 years.

Such a fun, emotional and meaningful day last Saturday, seeing so many amazing friends from the ALS community at The Angel Fund for ALS Research’s 25th Walk for Hope in Wakefield. 💙💛

It was so inspiring to hear Dr’s. Bob Brown and James Berry share about the hopeful research underway and so moving to honor and remember all those whose lives have been forever impacted by the devastation of ALS. Too many gone and too many fighting.

A very special thank you to Gene, Rich, Ann, and everyone at The Angel Fund for creating such an incredibly meaningful day filled with hope, remembrance, community, and connection.

The Walk for the Angel Fund.
Research to Treatment, ALS is not unbeatable, it’s underfunded.
This walk is to raise money for research.
The dollar you donate, might be the dollar that finds a cure for this terrible disease.
I’ve been coming here for years. Great to see some families and friends come back each year. But sad to not see the ones that are not here with us. 🙏
Someday soon, I hope a cure will be found. With your help.

Hope is a strong word that packs a lot of meaning. For 39 years, the Angel fund has been raising money towards treatment and, one day, a cure. Doves were also released prior to the start as a symbol of hope for the future. Our board members Gene Nigro, Jean Yentile and President Kate Davis volunteered at today's event.

Megan Fowler-Magaw, a PhD candidate in the lab of Daryl Bosco, PhD, studies a protein that is involved in about 97 percent of ALS cases and a handful of other neurodegenerative diseases called TDP-43.

The work in the Bosco lab is supported by the Angel Fund for ALS Research. Their next fundraiser is the 25th annual Walk of Hope for ALS, happening on Sept. 12 in Wakefield.

The 25th annual Walk of Hope for ALS, which benefits the Angel Fund for ALS Research and in turn supports ALS research at UMass Chan Medical School, is Sept. 12.

In this video, Melissa Rotunno, PhD’15, assistant professor of neurology at UMass Chan, discusses her research on ALS and explains how donations to the Angel Fund move that research forward.

Go to the link in our bio to register for the 3.5-mile walk, which happens around Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the walk starts at 11.

Registration is officially open for this year’s @theangelfundals Walk of Hope! The walk is on Saturday September 12th at Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield. Arrival and registration is at 9am but you can also register online at the bitly link attached. Please also see the bitly link to purchase an L-Train official shirt. Shirts cost $20 and come with your fundraising goal! Although Larry won’t be walking with us this year, his fight continues through his family in fighting to #endals 💙🤍🕊️
